Olukai Mio Li For Hiit Workouts Classes And Versatile Training
For versatile training, HIIT workouts, and classes, I think the Mio Li can be a viable option for many. They provide enough bounce to make them comfortable for plyometrics, and more specifically, I think theyll work best for short and mid-length workouts.
The upper is breathable, too, which is nice for wearing these in warmer gym settings or if youre training outdoors on turf. The midfoot also provides enough security to lock down the foot when doing forward and backward like box jumps, box jumps, and backward running.
My only gripe with the Mio Li and versatile training is that theyre not the best model for lateral work. Theyll get the job done for most activities like casual lateral bounding, but I did notice that the uppers security started to fall off as I did more explosive lateral work.
In future models, I think a slightly more reinforced upper, especially on the lateral midfoot could help limit this.
How To Clean Olukai Shoes
OluKai walking shoes are equipped with removable insoles. In most cases, these can be washed by hand or thrown in the washing machine. But if the top cover is made of suede or leather, you need to use the proper cleaning solution to freshen them up.
As for the entire shoe, if the upper is made of mesh, wool, or other synthetic materials, it can be hand-washed. If it is made of leather, suede, or nubuck, you need to use specialized solutions to clean them up. If your OluKai trainer uses Liko, a particular fabric from Hawaii, the brand advises that you only clean the outsole and not wash the upper.

How Does Olukai Reduce Its Environmental Footprint
We use natural latex in our gum rubbers, 30% recycled material in all our outsoles, and 100% recycled material in our packaging. We source all of our leathers exclusively from environmentally conscious ISO-14001 certified tanneries. We are exploring water-based glues, however at this time the sub-par bond durability outweighs the benefits. We will make the switch once the bonding strength improves. Olukai Mio Li For Lifting
In regard to lifting, the OluKai Mio Li is best for light and moderately heavy sessions. This shoe is not going to give you as much stability in squats and deadlifts as other cross-training shoes that have more stability.
I started to notice compression around 335 lbs in back squats and around 405 lbs in deadlifts. I think if youre staying under these thresholds with your lifting, then the stability in this shoe will be plenty fine for your performance needs.
Personally, I like the Mio Li best for my accessory days where Im doing more unilateral lower body exercises and upper body training. I like the blend of the higher heel-to-toe drop and EVA foam midsole and how they interact with my training on these accessory days.

When you choose a new pair of flip flops its important to ensure that the strap and toe post are comfortable. If theyre too tight, or otherwise have even the smallest rough edge, this can cause rubbing and blisters when you wear them over long periods.

Olukai Mio Li For Short Runs Walking And Daily Wear
For short runs, the OluKai Mio Li is okay, but Id suggest capping your mileage in this to around 2-miles or less. This model can be a little uncomfortable for longer runs and I think it will work best with warm-up and cool-down treadmill running pre and post-workout.
For walking, I like the Mio Li and I think theyll work best for those that like a little more stability in their shoes for walking. These will not provide as much cushion as other OluKai models like the Moku Pae, but for those that like a bit more stability then I think these will tick the comfort box.
Personally, I found these shoes to take about a week to break in. I had to get used to the arch support in this model and once I did I started to enjoy them more for walking, standing, and casual wear.

Best Olukai Sandal: Upena
Now that Im back in NYC, I usually wear sandals when out and about.
New York sidewalks can get gross so I want sandals with a little more support and structure than flip flops and the Upena sandals are perfect!
I opted for the all black, because I think black makes your foot as slimming as possible and while I love shoes, I dont necessarily want to draw attention to my toes.
The foot bed is insanely comfortable and I could probably walk the entire length of Manhattan in these shoes, no problem.
The Upena sandal has the same anatomically molded foot bed to cushion your feet and the best part is that the shoe doesnt look like it has a clunky insole from the outside.
Again, I like my shoes as slimming as possible and these make the cut! The sandal comes with a non-marking rubber sole as well
I also love how the straps can be adjustable you just gently pull and tug them into place if you want them to sit on your foot differently. I think the Upenawould even work well for all my wide-footed friends or those with bunions looking for comfy walking sandals!
