The Secret To Why Designer Clothes Are So Expensive

Jimmy Choo Sandals – Unboxing Haul & Try On

Ever wonder what could make a shirt a regular cotton-blend tee cost more than two months of rent? Us, too. And it turns out, even the people selling the expensive goods have no idea why they cost as much as they do. Kevin Smith over at Business Insider was curious as to why a pair of Jimmy Choo slip-on sneakers were selling on online retail site Mr. Porter for $1,095, so he contacted the sites help team to find out. At first glance, the slip-ons dont look that much different from your regular Vans sneaker. The materials may be a bit more high-end leather and studs than a canvas pair of Vans, but the sole and basic shape are the same.

Ashley, the salesperson who took Smiths query, wasnt too sure why the shoes cost more than a grand. Is it because of the materials? he asked. These Jimmy Choo sneakers are made of black suede and leather and also covered in metal studs. This is why they are so expensive. Also, Jimmy Choo is very high-end designer, she replied. Which, okay, stating the obvious. Not particularly helpful.

Lets go straight to the source, instead. Its not always the end product thats going to cost you your first-born, explained Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz in a 2009 New Yorker interview. Its the research and development that goes into the end product.

That makes sense when youre talking about something as intensive as, says, a hand-constructed satin dress. But explain the $1,520 tee shirt, Alber?

Meet Sandra Choi The Woman Behind Glam Shoe Brand Jimmy Choo

You probably know a thing or two about Jimmy Choo: Princess Diana was one of the brand’s first clients in the early 2000s it was canonized on Sex and the City when Carrie Bradshaw famously proclaimed, “WaitI lost my Choo!” And since then, Choos have decorated the feet of everyone from First Lady Michelle Obama to Beyoncé to Duchess Catherine. Whew! But what you may not know is that these days there’s a woman behind the brand: the diminutive and driven Sandra Choi, whose 20-year rise makes for a very convincing case study in delayed gratification . “There are no shortcuts to doing what I do,” says the 43-year-old fashion exec. “You have to know your craft and respect the fundamentals of shoe design. It can’t be borne purely out of creativity.”

In Her Shoes: Choi, pictured here in her London home, shows off her favorite Jimmy Choo styles of the season. Jonathan Saunders dress. Jimmy Choo heels, $995.

Fashion Throwback: This 1991 snap of a young Choi gives a peek at some of the brand’s early work.

Who You Gonna Call? Jimmy Chooduh! The proof is in the pics: Choos show up on important occasions. Princess Diana was an early client, and Michelle Obama wore the brand to both of her husband’s inaugural balls.

I Love Shopping Online With Choo

I have bought multiple heels, trainers and bags from jimmy choo online. Each time they have been delivered on time with regular updates on the whereabouts of the delivery. I have returned twice to them, once a bag, and another was a pair of heels. Both times the returns process has been smooth. Refunded within a week and they even collect the item from you using a DPD driver. My jimmy choo wedding shoes box was suspiciously taken and thrown away by cleaners from my hotel room on the day of my wedding. We contacted jimmy choo, provided the order number and they sent me a new box, including dust bag and tissue paper free of charge and with no hesitation. Customer service is excellent. This is in the UK.

Where Are Jimmy Choo Shoes Made

    Cheap Jimmy Choo High

When Jimmy Choo shoes were first released, these handmade shoes were made in London. As Jimmy Choos popularity skyrocketed in the late 90s, their production was moved from London to Italy.

Although the production has moved, youll still see Jimmy Choo London displayed proudly on the insole logo, along with the sole of the shoe.

Alongside this logo, youll also find the words, Made in Italy.

As the shoes are made in the craftsmanship capital of the world, youll occasionally see Vero Cuoio on the sole of the shoes, meaning true leather in Italian.

Jimmy Choo manufactures its shoes in Italy

Due to the takeover by Michael Kors, Jimmy Choo shoes along with Versace will be produced by Alberto Gozzi in the future.

Its a family-owned manufacturer that was established in 1974 in Tuscany.

This change means that Jimmy Choo shoes will continue to be produced and manufactured within Italy.

While other brands are increasingly moving their production out of Europe, Jimmy Choo is keeping its production rooted firmly in the leather capital of Europe.

Tamara Mellon Wants To Bring You Champagne Shoes On A Beer Budget

Jimmy Choo’s creative director on her namesake direct-to-consumer collection.

“I tried to do direct to consumer three years ago and three years ago I felt that the customer was ready for it,” veteran shoe designer Tamara Mellon tells me of the new Tamara Mellon shoe collection over the phone from Los Angeles. The former New Yorker has re-launched her namesake brand after leaving her top tier position at Jimmy Choo and moved across the country for what some would say is a fresh start. “There’s this sort of migration west at the moment, a sort of energy that’s definitely moving to LA,” Mellon says. “The city is kind of going through an interesting transition sort of renaissance time where there is so much going on here. I think it’s really exciting to be here.”

Excitement is something I could say Mellon is used to. If you haven’t heard the story here’s a quick run down: After cofounding luxury shoe brand Jimmy Choo in 1996, Mellon left in 2011 with a reported $135 million payout. In 2013 she launched Tamara Mellon, a collection of shoes and apparel, but in a turn of events, Mellon eventually filed for bankruptcy. “I had to put the company through a reorg, raise a new round of financing, and sort of press the restart button,” the designer says of the setback. “It’s amazing how much resilience you can have when you’re passionate about a project that you’re doing.”

It’s been how long since launch? A week, right?

    The Growth Of Jimmy Choo

Within a few years, Jimmy Choo shoes became one of the most coveted in the world.

It entered the pop culture world after appearing in Sex and the City, immortalized when Carrie Bradshaw uttered the words, I lost my Choo!.

With the Bradshaw stamp of approval, the shoes broke onto the mainstream, becoming one of the first shoe brands to begin to dominate red carpet events.

The first major celebrity to wear Jimmy Choo on the red carpet was Cate Blanchett when she was nominated for the Best Actress Oscar in 1999.

Since that faithful award show, weve paid just as much attention to what celebrities are wearing on their feet as the dresses theyre wearing. Celebrities who have been spotted in Jimmy Choo include Beyonce, Victoria Beckham, Scarlett Johansson, and Jennifer Lopez.

    How To Distinguish The Original

Louboutin | Jimmy Choo | SHOE Dupe!

If the shoes are not bought in the brand boutique, but in the department of the shopping center or in the online store, there is always a risk to get a fake instead of the original pair of elite shoes. How to determine the authenticity of shoes?

    • Price. Shoes from Jimmy Choo can not cost less than 20 thousand rubles, taking into account seasonal sales discounts.
    • Quality. Shoes must be of perfect quality. Uneven seams and other defects for original designer shoes are unacceptable. Before releasing products for sale, each pair of the brand is thoroughly tested.
    • The brand. The inscription with the name “Jimmy Choo” should be placed on the box, covers for storing shoes, the inside of the product. It is important to check the spelling of the name of the designer.

A Truly Fantastic Experience With Jimmy

A truly fantastic experience with Jimmy Choo, I’ve shopped from them for 3+ years and own nearly 20 items! Reading through other reviews I think it’s important to highlight that quality does not equal durability, these are shoes made with the finest quality fabrics which are delicate and need to be preserved and looked after. Jimmy Choo also does a great repair service, I wear mine whenever I want and then just get them repaired when needed! I tend to shop in store because they’re online customer services team are not the best, plus why spend all this money not to have the experience! Shop in store. Look after your shoes. Repair them.

Replies On How To Stretch Tight Shoes: 5 Fails Yield One Great Solution

    I love these Jimmy Choo
  • pat bsays: at 3:37pm

Doing all the above works great as does soaking your socks with plain rubbing alcohol on the places that need a little stretch. Wear the socks and shoes until the alcohol evaporates and the shoes should fit. You might have to do it more than once, but it works like a charm. Guess all the expensive stretching solution is really just alcohol.

  • Sallysays:

Glad to have another technique that works for this age-old problem, cause all except the hair-dryer technique didnt work. Yikes!! Thanks!!

  • Miranda Carnessalesays: at 11:49pm

Hey, I work for a high quality shoe company that prides itself in helping customers with stretching shoes to fit individual feet. I consulted with my manager today after reading this entry and he strongly advises that hairdryers are bad for stretching shoes and can result in serious warping.

  • Sallysays:

I appreciate your feedback. My thinking is that if Ive tried everything else, including professional shoe stretching and I really love the shoes, then Ive got little to lose by trying this

  • Chris Klinesays:

alsojust FYIrubbing alcohol is really bad for leather because it dries it out

Jimmy Choo’s Gnavant Sells $43 Million Diamond

    ByBloomberg

Gènavant designers Jimmy Choo and Reggie Hung are hoping to lure Chinese one-percenters with a pair of high heels inlaid with thousands of rare pink diamonds.

    ByBloomberg

SHANGHAI, China Back in the 1980s, Paul Simon and Ladysmith Black Mambazo sang of a rich woman in New York so glamorous she had diamonds on the soles of her shoes. Now famed shoe designer Jimmy Choo is betting her contemporaries are in China.

At a giant trade fair under way in Shanghai, Choo and fellow designer Reggie Hung are showing off gemstone shoes for Chinese one-percenters. Choo and Hungs top-of-the-line model: a pair of high heels inlaid with thousands of rare pink diamonds with a $4.3 million price tag.

The shoes are the most expensive piece presented by Gènavant, the two designers London-based luxury brand thats using the China International Import Expo in Shanghai to launch its bling footwear in China, according to managing director Tao Xiao.

Even as Chinas economic growth slows, some of the countrys wealthiest consumers still are willing to shell out for conspicuous luxury goods from brands like Gènavant. Choo and Hungs company, which makes its shoes in Italy and then adds the gemstones in Taiwan, has already received orders, Tao said.

If paying more than $4 million for a pair of shoes is beyond your reach, not to worry. Gènavant also offers shoes with a starting price of $50,000 for consumers on a more modest budget.

I Bought 2 Pairs Of Jimmy Choo High

I bought 2 pairs of jimmy choo high heel sandals adorned on heel and shoe with gold studs. One pair in camel and one in white. They were $2000 in total. I am extremely disappointed that many studs on both shoes fell off. When I called customer service to buy just the studs they would not sell them to me! I had to find receipt, take pictures, send back both pairs and then MAYBE they would fix them which could take months. I think this is terrible service and would never recommend any of their studded or pearl shoes to anyone. Karen Fink
