Kevin Smith over at Business Insider was curious as to why a pair of Jimmy Choo slip-on sneakers were selling on online retail site Mr. Porter for $1,095, so he contacted the sites help team to find out. At first glance, the slip-ons dont look that much different from your regular Vans sneaker. The materials may be a bit more high-end leather and studs than a canvas pair of Vans, but the sole and basic shape are the same.

“I tried to do direct to consumer three years ago and three years ago I felt that the customer was ready for it,” veteran shoe designer Tamara Mellon tells me of the new Tamara Mellon shoe collection over the phone from Los Angeles. The former New Yorker has re-launched her namesake brand after leaving her top tier position at Jimmy Choo and moved across the country for what some would say is a fresh start. “There’s this sort of migration west at the moment, a sort of energy that’s definitely moving to LA,” Mellon says. “The city is kind of going through an interesting transition sort of renaissance time where there is so much going on here. I think it’s really exciting to be here.”
Excitement is something I could say Mellon is used to. If you haven’t heard the story here’s a quick run down: After cofounding luxury shoe brand Jimmy Choo in 1996, Mellon left in 2011 with a reported $135 million payout. In 2013 she launched Tamara Mellon, a collection of shoes and apparel, but in a turn of events, Mellon eventually filed for bankruptcy. “I had to put the company through a reorg, raise a new round of financing, and sort of press the restart button,” the designer says of the setback. “It’s amazing how much resilience you can have when you’re passionate about a project that you’re doing.”

Jimmy Choo also does a great repair service, I wear mine whenever I want and then just get them repaired when needed! Gènavant designers Jimmy Choo and Reggie Hung are hoping to lure Chinese one-percenters with a pair of high heels inlaid with thousands of rare pink diamonds.
SHANGHAI, China Back in the 1980s, Paul Simon and Ladysmith Black Mambazo sang of a rich woman in New York so glamorous she had diamonds on the soles of her shoes. Now famed shoe designer Jimmy Choo is betting her contemporaries are in China.
At a giant trade fair under way in Shanghai, Choo and fellow designer Reggie Hung are showing off gemstone shoes for Chinese one-percenters. Choo and Hungs top-of-the-line model: a pair of high heels inlaid with thousands of rare pink diamonds with a $4.3 million price tag.
The shoes are the most expensive piece presented by Gènavant, the two designers London-based luxury brand thats using the China International Import Expo in Shanghai to launch its bling footwear in China, according to managing director Tao Xiao.
Even as Chinas economic growth slows, some of the countrys wealthiest consumers still are willing to shell out for conspicuous luxury goods from brands like Gènavant. Choo and Hungs company, which makes its shoes in Italy and then adds the gemstones in Taiwan, has already received orders, Tao said.
If paying more than $4 million for a pair of shoes is beyond your reach, not to worry. Gènavant also offers shoes with a starting price of $50,000 for consumers on a more modest budget.

I bought 2 pairs of jimmy choo high heel sandals adorned on heel and shoe with gold studs. One pair in camel and one in white. They were $2000 in total. I am extremely disappointed that many studs on both shoes fell off. When I called customer service to buy just the studs they would not sell them to me! I had to find receipt, take pictures, send back both pairs and then MAYBE they would fix them which could take months.
