Fill In The Spaces That Are Open

How I Built A $7 Billion Shoe Company Called On | Founder Effect

You can always use that approach if youre in a hurry but dont have time to fuss about getting your shoes to suit you perfectly. To fill empty space at the tip of the foot, all you need is some toilet paper, cotton pads, tissue paper, or even an old rag.

This is particularly useful if your foot keeps slipping between the back and front of your shoes when youre wearing them, and its a quick fix if youre in a hurry.

Since you cant see the extra paper in your toes, this method is perfect for flats that dont fit well, boots with extra space, or even close-toed heels.

The Blow Dryer Method

If you have leather shoes that fit a bit loose, what you need to shrink them is a bit of water in a spray bottle and your trusty blow dryer. Once you have your shrinking items, spray your shoes generously but don’t soak them. Afterward, simply dry your shoe with the blow-dryer set to medium heat. When the shoe is completely dry, try it on. If it’s still a bit loose, repeat the process.

Your gait can also be affected as you try to compensate for the boots being too loose, which can lead to serious foot injuries. The arch support for your feet is vital, and if your foot isnt at the right spot, you could end up with flat feet, swelling, or plantar fasciitis.

Your Toes Need Stretching Too

  • Take your toes in your hands and gently pull them apart.
  • Wiggle your toes a little every day
  • Take off your shoes and socks or stockings, and let your toes get sunlight and air.

Tubing Or Sock Balloon Trick

This is one of the best tricks to make shoes smaller with tubing when they are too big. Simply insert two pieces of tissue paper in your shoes before putting your feet in them, then inflate some tubing . Once its in place, remove the tissue paper and let the tubing do its job! Its important not to put too much pressure on it though, so make sure to also stuff the toe box with tissue paper. It should make your shoes fit like a glove.

Make An Investment In Insoles

Shoe inserts are a suitable choice among many people who have too-big shoes. It is a perfect way to balance out the shoe gap and give your feet some additional support.

Bear in mind that the insoles you get are not permanent, and you will need to replace them at some point. Gel or latex foam insoles should be avoided if you want your shoes to last.

If youre using products frequently, they can wither away easily. Sure, they can seem ideal when your feet hurt, but once the material inside wears out, there will be very little cushioning between your foot and the shoe, and youll be right back where you started.

Instead of these two options, consider a Peron insole. Peron is a long-lasting material. It is a robust or supportive material that is commonly used in orthotics. The best thing about this technique is that you can use it in any shoe when using insoles.

Making A Diy Shoe Filler

Shoe insert is very comfortable however, they need to be changed after every six months, making them economically unfriendly. With DIY shoe filler, you can make them by yourself. They are affordable because materials for making them are readily available and at your disposal.

If your shoe is enormous in the toe box, it is very much easier because you only need to roll some tissue paper and insert it inside. However, you have to ensure that the roll is not too big to press your toe therefore, it should allow some space for the toe. If you have old newspapers and wonder how you can utilize them, this might be the right time for them because they make the best toe box fillers.

To improve their effectiveness, you can use a combination of half or full inserts, heel grips and DIY shoe fillers.

Use of socks, Footies, and Tongue Pads

Using thick socks may be appropriate if your shoes are just a little loose. In cases of sneakers where you do not want to wear them with thick socks, then footies are the best for you as they hardly peek above the level of your shoes. You can also make the tongue of your shoes thick by buying a tongue pad and sticking them under it, making the tongue thick. Your shoes fit you snugly once you tighten the laces.

Are Your Shoes Too Big Or Loose

Shoes often fit us differently depending on the season, and even our mood can affect their fit. One day theyre too tight, and the next theyre slightly too loose. If you find that your shoes are loose, it could be due to several different reasons.

Your shoes might have stretched out from wear or because of the weather. Or it is the wrong size shoe that can be also due to poor sizing or because you simply bought the wrong shoe for your needs.

Its also likely that you dont know what your true shoe size is. Your feet could also be two entirely different sizes, just like mine are and Im not alone!

Its not uncommon for people to wear shoes that dont fit exactly right. Its pretty common.

Thats why a shoe brand like Nike launched a scanner called Nike Fit. It is an app to know your right shoe size for different styles of shoes.

But since most brands have universal sizes and dont offer the same privilege. It is up to you to look for the right shoes and choose the best fit. And you dont always pick the right one. It can end up larger than you expected.

Inserting Big Shoe Filler

Are you having a hard time fitting your shoes that run larger? Rely on shoe fillers to fill in the toe box and have a more comfortable fitting right away!

Similar to the shoe inserts, shoe fillers are little in shape but very impactful to reduce the shoe length. You need to buy quite big fillers and insert them inside the toe box.

Also, remember that this process is only applicable when the shoes run a half or one size bigger at best. To fit one-size larger shoes, extra large shoe fillers are the best option.

Step : Add Or Remove A Heel

Adding a heel to a shoe involves cutting out a piece of leather that will be stitched into the shoe. Adding the right amount of material is essential for making sure the shoe fits well.

Removing a heel is similar to adding a heel. You can either cut out the heel with a punch or a knife, or use scissors.

You can also make a shoe longer by adding a toe extension, which is a piece of leather stitched to the toe area.

How To Shrink Leather Shoes

If youve got a pair of leather shoes that are too big, you can use a hair dryer to shrink them down a size.

Before shrinking your shoes, make sure you figure out which parts of your shoes need to be made smaller. When using this method, you can target specific areas to shrink.

When youre ready, grab a spray bottle filled with water and wet your shoes. Youll want to make sure theyre wet but not soaked.

Then set your dryer to medium heat and dry your shoes. Then slip them on, and if theyre still a little too big, you can wet and dry them again.

And if youre looking for a new pair of leather shoes, shop the latest Roberto Morino collection.

This hairdryer method also works with suede and canvas shoes.

Step : Decide Where You Want To Cut Off

If youre making a new pair of shoes, you can start by cutting off the toe. If youre making a new pair of jeans, you can start by cutting off the toe. The same principle applies here.

The trickiest part of this step is figuring out how much material you need to remove. If you have a pair of jeans that are too long, youll need to cut off some material at the front to make them shorter.

How To Shrink Sneakers

The easiest way to shrink a pair of shoes is to use a pair of shoe cushions or even insoles. They wont adjust the size of the shoe itself, but they will make them fit your feet perfectly. You can also choose where you want to put the shoe cushion.

You can get shoe cushions and insoles in all shapes and sizes. Whether you want to add a cushion to the front of the foot or on the heel, you should be able to find the perfect insert.

If youre wondering how to shrink heels, this method also works on heels and pumps. You can even use it on canvas shoes. Unfortunately, it’s not the best technique for sandals unless you can find a small enough shoe cushion.

Another way to get a tighter fit on your sneakers is by wearing a thick pair of socks.

Double Up On Insoles:

Quick and practical solution.

Do you have another shoe that is of a similar size? Well, pull the answer out of that running shoe and put it on top of the insert in this new shoe that is too big.

This is a swift and effective solution that almost everybody can try almost immediately. The main downside is that you squish it in the middle of your foot by doing too much of this. It does not really help for a loose heel or long toes.

Use Vinegar To Make Your Shoes Smaller

14 Ways to Make Shoes Smaller

Vinegar is an alcoholic liquid that can also be used to shrink shoes when used properly. The trick here is to make sure both shoes soak with enough vinegar to make the material of your shoes shrink without spoiling the material of the shoes.

If you want to use this method, all you have to do is to mix vinegar in a bowl with water. Try to make the quantities of both be as equal as possible, then soak two small towels in them. Run the soaked towels over the material of your shoes gently, making sure to clean any dripping. When this is done, place the towels in your shoes and make sure that they stay there for about 2-3 hours. Remove the towels then and let your shoes dry in a warm place, but not in direct contact with the rays of the sun.

As the shoes get dried, they will get smaller and then you can test to see if the size of your shoes is now as small as you need or not. If not, then you can repeat the process until you achieve the size you want.

Using Ball Of Foot Cushions

Sometimes placing a full insole can be uncomfortable. In that case, try the ball of foot pads for cushions that work pretty similar to the full insoles. In fact, they offer the same cushioning and grip but do not create any discomfort.

As they sit right under the balls, you can hardly see them from outside. Besides, the foot cushions will elevate your feet a bit more to adjust to the toe straps.

Moreover, you can use them to narrow flats, heels, boots, etc., more preferable for open-toed sandals though!

Ball Of Foot Cushions

To make shoes smaller for my summer sandals, flats or pumps, ball of foot cushions are the most practical insole type.

They will not only prop your foot a little higher so that the shoe’s toe straps keep your foot in place, but they add extra padding & grip under the ball of the feet.

This prevents toes from slipping & sliding in your shoes during the warmer temperatures. This type of half insole works best in flats, sandals, heels & dress shoes.

These are the insoles for open-toe heels that I most recommend, especially if you’re wearing a d’Orsay or similarly capped high heel style.

Stuffing And Double Layers

Things you will need for this technique:

  • Extra/thick socks.

This is perhaps the easiest and most cost-effective how to make shoes smaller method since it uses items you likely already have.

Yep, were kind like that!

  • With your foot inside the shoe, slide it around to feel where space occurs naturally.
  • Grab the cloth and rip or tear off a piece to fill the gap.
  • Try the shoes on and repeat as needed.
  • If youre unable to achieve the desired comfort levels with the cloth, try using tissue paper, toilet paper or cotton balls. These work just as well to reduce the extra space in your shoes.

If its not summer yet or you dont get hot feet, you can also double-up on pairs of socks. Alternatively, just use one pair of extremely thick socks to achieve the same result.

Again, this is one of the easiest methods of making big shoes fit but is only feasible on cooler days. Wearing two pairs of socks during a hot summer day is a recipe for stinky feet!
