Puma Is Back In The Nba Shoe Game And Counting On Players Such As Lamelo Ball And Deandre Ayton

Lamelo Wears New Puma Custom Shoe!!!! (Lamelo Ball Puma Court Rider)

Deandre Ayton swears his mind was made up before he took the first official meeting with Puma. The 6-foot-11 Bahamian remembered the brand being wildly popular when he was growing up, with Jamaican Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt wearing its shoes. He felt a connection with his mother being from Jamaica.

The NBA draft is a players introduction to the league, and millions in endorsements can be waiting for those drafted high. And sneaker heavyweights Nike and Adidas have dominated the performance basketball marketplace for decades. Before 2018, Nike had signed 11 of the No. 1 picks dating from 2001, and Adidas had gotten four Reebok signed Washington Wizards point guard John Wall in 2010.

But Ayton is an unconventional thinker known to break out different personas named Alejandro, Josh and Rodrigo while in college. A shock went through the sneaker community when the 2018 No. 1 pick announced he had signed a four-year, multimillion deal with Puma.

I always wanted to be different, the Phoenix Suns center said. Just actually picking the brand, its almost like picking a tattoo its something personal to me.

Its a statement. People are watching, and its a lot of haters out there. A lot of doubt. Puma is a brand where we dont care. Were the next hot thing coming. And with the players and the people they have around us and the people were meeting and the people theyre recruiting, this thing can only go bigger.

Lamelo Ball Shoes: Chino Hills

In case youve been living in a cave for the past six years or so, LaMelo Ball is the youngest of LaVar Balls children. His brothers are Lonzo Ball of the Chicago Bulls and LiAngelo Ball of the Greensboro Swarm, the Hornets G-League team. Together they are one of the most famous and notorious families in the sporting world. The three brothers and their father became household names in 2016, when Chino Hills won a state championship on the backs of the three brothers, cheered on by the boisterous support of their father.

That Chino Hills team is widely regarded as one of the best high school basketball teams in US history, and a very young LaMelo was a big factor in their success.

In his freshman season, Ball played point guard on a stacked Chino Hills roster that, aside from the Ball brothers, also included their cousin Andre Ball, who currently plays for Pepperdine, and Onyeka Okongwu of the Atlanta Hawks. LaMelo shared MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year honors with Okongwu after averaging 16.4 points and 3.8 assists per game during that perfect season for Chino Hills.

At the time, Chino Hills was an Adidas school. So naturally LaMelo laced up the three stripes that season. Melo reached for guard shoes such as the Adidas Dame 2, the Adidas CrazyLight Boost 2015, the Adidas J Wall 2 and primarily, the Adidas Harden Vol.01.

While with the JBA US Select team, LaMelo also broke out his second signature shoe, the MB1. The MB1 didnt receive the attention the LaMelo 1 did, nor did LaMelo rock them that often, but they were still technically LaMelos second signature shoe before reaching the NBA.

Much like LiAngelos BBB G3 and Lonzos BBB ZO2.19, the MB1 featured the same midsole and outsole tooling. The tooling offered a Jetlon-like cushioned ride with great grip on the hardwood.

Lamelo Ball: When Is The Release For His Signature Sneaker With Puma

Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball, who won NBA Rookie of the Year this past season, is scheduled to release his first signature shoe.

Ball, who has been a fan favorite since he was a high school superstar at Chino Hills in Southern California, was always destined to draw intrigue when he signed a sneaker deal because of his off-court popularity.

The 19-year-old was signed to his family-owned Big Baller Brand until leaving the company to sign with Puma in Oct. 2020. He rocked the Puma Clyde All-Pro sneakers on the court during his first year with the Hornets. But it was only a matter of time before Puma was going to let Ball use his platform for his own line.

After an impressive debut campaign in the NBA, however, the hype surrounding the upcoming release for Ball is greater than ever. He will ride that momentum into the 2021-22 season and will be rocking his signature shoe in the process.

LaMelo Ball debuts his first @PumaHoops signature shoe, the MB1, at NBA Summer League.

Nick DePaula

Earlier this month, Ball showed up at Las Vegas Summer League to support his Charlotte teammates including his older brother LiAngelo Ball. He was wearing the Puma MB1, per ESPNs Nick DePaula.

It shouldnt be a surprise if the sneakers are immediately among the most popular among basketball fans, especially considering his popularity among younger viewers.

Bbb Lamelo 1 Vs Brand Black Rare Metal

The LaMelo 1 supposedly carried different tech to the Rare Metals, but if they were anything alike, the LaMelo 1 would have been a great on-court performance shoe. The Rare Metal featured the same beastly blade traction pattern, plush Jetlon Evolution foam cushioning and an awesome jaccard upper. Its hard to imagine that LaMelo would have rocked them for so long if they were trash.

The shoe cost a whopping $395, which was a bit nuts, especially considering the Rare Metal retailed for $110. To make matters worse, when asked about the hefty price tag of Big Baller Brand shoes, LaVar tweeted that If you cant afford the ZO2s, youre NOT a BIG BALLER!.

The ZO2s retailed for $495. He was asked about the infamous tweet several times in different interviews, but LaVar never backed down from his stance.

With the LaMelo 1, Melo became the youngest player to ever get his own signature shoe. But before he was able to get them on court, his young career suffered another big shift.

Can you talk us through the design process?

Jacob: We started designing right away, shortly after we signed LaMelo. In the first week after, we had a Facetime call with him to get his general thoughts and ideas down. One month later, we had a room full of ideas.Jeff: In terms of a product timeline, it was full go ahead from the second we signed him. After the first phone call with him, we invited LaMelo into the office to show him a ton of designs. We put them all up on the wall and he was walking through all of them. It was almost like a footwear bootcamp, because we needed to build his signature shoe within a short period of time. Usually, this process would take 18 months or longer. We laid out a timeline for him, presented the design directions and told him we need to pick one. Melo understands the whole design process and it was pretty easy to work with him. He really is confident in what he wants to do.Jacob: In the end we had three designs and we took it way past sketching. We almost did a six month design process in one month. We developed a lot more product than we needed to, but it worked out. He actually loved two of them.

Lonzo Lamelo And Big Baller Brand: How Ball Brothers Slowly Moved Away From Family Business

Puma MB.1 Performance Review On foot Lamelo Ball Shoes

If you turned off your Big Baller Brand alerts last year, you may have missed the Feb. 19 announcement revealing that the global sports and lifestyle brand had launched a new website, BigBallerBrandInc.com, with nearly 50 new products available for only the most Baller of fans.

The Big Baller Brand is BACK and better than ever! Over the past year, my team and I have been working diligently to expand Big Baller Brand and improve the overall customer experience, Big Baller Brand CEO LaVar Ball said in a press release. We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new website BigBallerBrandInc.com. I want to thank our loyal fans for patiently waiting for the relaunch and continuing to grow with our family!

NBA MOCK DRAFT: Where does LaMelo Ball land?

Despite the use of both caps lock and an exclamation point, LaVar couldnt divert attention from the notable absences of Pelicans guard Lonzo Ball and potential top-five draft pick LaMelo Ball, his oldest and youngest of three sons, respectively. LaVar and his middle son, LiAngelo, are featured prominently on the front page of the new site, but Lonzo and LaMelo are nowhere to be found.

Only a few years ago, LaVar was telling anyone within shouting distance that his sons and consequently, Big Baller Brand were ready to take over the NBA. This latest development continues the trend of Lonzo and LaMelo distancing themselves from the company.

Upon returning to the states, LaMelo signed with a team in Los Angeles. But, it wasnt the Lakers. On May 4, 2018, Melo signed with the Los Angeles Ballers, in the JBA. What the hell is the JBA, you may ask? Well, it was a league , formed by enterprising ol LaVar, that was supposed to be an alternative to college basketball. In his debut, LaMelo posted a triple-double with 40 points, 16 rebounds, 10 assists and three steals.

LaMelo played in eight regular season games and averaged a triple-double with 39.6 points, 14.6 rebounds and 11.5 assists per game. In the playoffs, he dropped 55 points, 16 rebounds and seven assists on the New York Ballers. LaMelo led the team to the JBA championship over the Seattle Ballers.

At the end of the season, LaMelo was named to the JBA USA team that was created to face several European teams on an international tour. LaMelo infamously got into a scuffle during a game against BC Dzkija, a Lithuanian team, on the tour. Despite the fight, LaMelo showcased the range of skills he could potentially take to the league.

While playing in the JBA, LaMelo stuck with his signature shoe and started breaking out more flashy colorways.

On October 2, 2017, before his junior season, LaMelo was pulled out of Chino Hills high school to be homeschooled. LaVar Ball disapproved of newly-appointed head coach Dennis Latimore and the schools administration.

On December 7, LaMelo officially signed with a pro agent, Harrison Gaines, aiming to play professionally overseas alongside his brother LiAngelo. This would mean forgoing college for LaMelo, which was a risky move that could have jeopardized his chances of making it to the NBA.

On December 11, 2017 LaMelo and LiAngelo both signed with BC Pirenaiin Lithuania and Ball reportedly became the youngest American to ever sign a professional basketball contract in Europe. It should come as no surprise that LaMelo struggled greatly. The culture shock and the language barrier would have been enough to throw anyone off their game. Throw in the fact that LaMelo was just a teenager and had to play against full grown professional European hoopers and it was a disaster in the making.

Lithuania is a hotbed of European basketball talent. They produce serious, technically-sound ball players and Lithuanian coaches have a reputation for being very hard-nosed and strict. The Ball family arrived in Lithuania thinking they were going to run the joint, but that simply wasnt going to happen. This added to their general disappointment and frustration.

Nba Draft: Lavar Ball On Lamelo Wearing Bbb Shoes During Nba Games: ‘stay Tuned’

  • LaVar Ball had a successful relaunch of the Big Baller Brand last year
  • He said that he is happy with their new designs and the people around him
  • Asked about LaMelo wearing BBB shoes when hes in the NBA, LaVar is not sure about if his son will wear them

The Big Baller Brand is back and in full swing after taking some time off to restructure the brand and LaVar Ball cannot help but be happy with the developments of the new BBB.

Triple Bs are back but it is still not guaranteed if we are going to see them on an NBA floor now that the youngest of the brothers is about to enter the league as one of the top picks in the 2020 NBA Draft. When asked if LaMelo Ball will be rocking the BBB shoes once hes in the league in an interview posted on TMZ Sports, the BBB CEO still does not have the answer for that.

“Will he be wearing a Big Baller Brand shoe? I don’t know. You’re going to have to stay tuned for that man,” said the father of the Ball brothers.

LaVar also shared the changes that will be happening with his beloved brand. Its going to be bigger and better. Im just like any other businessman, once you start off, you gotta start off on a certain plateau, he said. Everybody like to always say Oh, he has some bumps and bruises, I aint no bumps and bruises. Its just somebody who did something bad within the company, Ball referring to former business partner Alan Foster.

But the Big Baller Brand is a family brand and well just gonna keep moving forward.
