The story starts in Bolton, England in 1895, where Joseph William Foster began creating one of the first spiked running shoe designs. Over the next couple of decades, J.W. Foster and Sons made a name for itself with innovative running shoes, often worn by British athletes, and always displaying the Union Jack flag as a stylistic homage.
In 1958, two of Fosters grandsons formed Reebok, a companion company that eventually branched out into US sales under the Reebok USA Ltd. division.
