Don’t Miss: How To Design Your Own Shoe Line

Keen Mens Clearwater Cnx

The Keen Mens Clearwater CNX Sandal is a lightweight comfortable walking sandal. It has a low profile and is considerably thinner than other sandals in the Keen range.

The outer fabric on the Keen Clearwater CNX is a polyester webbing, which is machine washable. The inner lining is a hydrophobic mesh, which does its utmost to repel water.

The Keen Clearwater CNX has a two-millimeter bungee and toggle lacing system on the shoe. This allows the shoe to be tightened to a comfortable fit for your particular foot size and shape, thus providing adequate support around the base of the foot and the ankle.

There are two finger tabs, one on the tongue of the shoe and one at the top of the heel. These finger tabs allow for quick and easy putting on of the walking sandal. The tabs are made of a 3M reflective material which gives off a light when being worn in poor light conditions.

The contoured midsole is designed with comfort in mind. The low profile outer sole of the shoe is only four millimeters thick, which gives the wearer the sensation and comfort of walking barefoot with the protection of a Keen sandal. It has a cushioned heel cradle, and a metatarsal arch hugging the bottom of the foot.

What Should You Look For In A Water

Keen Clearwater CNX Sandals

I am one of those who enjoy outdoor activities that take me in and out of the water as well as hiking-friendly terrain.

Thus, there are some particular features that I look for in a water-friendly hiking sandal to ensure that I am as safe as possible from injuries.

  • A rugged outsole. The outsole must offer some grip on the terrain to minimize slips and falls. I also like to make sure that the outsole works on wet rocks. This requires some kind of lugging or raised bumps that offer traction across multiple surfaces.
  • A supportive footbed. A sandal doesnt need to be as rigid as a hiking boot since I am not going to use it as my regular day-hiker, but some support around the midsole is helpful. I always buy water-friendly hiking sandals that have some contoured footbed with a cupped heel and raised arch. The ones that are completely flat tend to hurt my feet after only minimal wear.
  • A protective, adjustable, waterproof upper. Its easy to scrape a foot when crossing wet rocks or hiking on loose dirt or gravel. The sandal upper should be made of a rugged material that will offer proper protection from the elementsI like to pick a model with a toe bumper to minimize the all-too-frequent toe injuries that come from trekking near the water. I also like to make sure that the upper is waterproof to keep the shoe from becoming too waterlogged throughout a day by the shore. Finally, the upper must be adjustable for a proper fit.

    Keen Newport H2 For Men

The Keen Newport hiking sandal is another great option. It too has a cushioning in the footbed combined with the ergonomic arch in the midfoot to make this sandal full of comfort and support.

As well as having a comfortable midsole, it also provides great shock absorption meaning that the wearer can hike, run and jump without fear of putting excessive stress on any singular muscle or joint. These walking sandals are designed with length of use in mind. So, even after a full days hike, your feet will be protected and supported.

The Newport has a metatomical footbed which conforms to the shape of your foot, providing enhanced fit and comfort. The mulitdierctiional lug pattern on the rubber outer sole of the sndal allows for superior traction in all conditions.

The Keen Newport features a handy pullcord that can be zipped closed to provide maximum ankle support, which is something that many sandals fail to provide. The Newport also has a rubberized protective toebed which prevents stubbed toes. The Newport is a durable sandal that will give you reliable foot support, comfort, and safety both in and out of the water, and over all sorts of terrain.

Outdoor pursuits can leave the adventurer hot and bothered. There is nothing worse than a shoe that smells after a long days hike. Both the Keen Newport and the Clearwater CNX are treated with an AEGIS microbe shield treated lining.

    Keen Clearwater Cnx Review

I am fortunate to live in a part of the United States where the coast is right nearby, and beach-access trails abound. Since I spend a lot of time by the water, I wanted to get a shoe that could handle being submerged but could also get me across the trails that lead me to the shore.

Overall, if you are looking for a general water-friendly all-rounder for beach activities, the Keen CNX is a good option.

I also wanted to feel sure-footed when exploring tidepools with my children. This is why I purchased a pair of Keen Clearwater CNX sandals.

I tested the Keen CNX across some undeveloped terrain and lots of seashore walking throughout the warmer months in San Diego, CA. Throughout this article, you will see pictures of the type of terrain on which these shoes were tested.

My experience with the Keen CNX was overall fairly positive. While I enjoyed the fit and durable nature of the shoes after many soakings, I found the support a bit lacking and the tread a little underwhelming.

Below explains why I give this shoe model a qualified recommendation for beachgoers but not for any serious outdoor activity.

    Our Analysis And Test Results

    KEEN Clearwater CNX Sandals Review

The Keen Clearwater is a relatively strong performer across the board, putting up solid scores in comfort, traction, and stability. This is also one of the most attractive of the Keen models, though we still find them less stylish than open-toed models. The only metric where the Clearwater falls short is adjustability. It isn’t easy to fine-tune adjustments with a single cinch strap at the top of the foot that tightens the cord in a shoelace-like pattern. The ankle also lacks adjustment, but many of our testers worked around this by simply stepping on the ankle strap when they needed to slip the shoe on and off quickly. This is a fairly narrow shoe , so those with wide feet may want to look at other options.

Should You Buy The Keen Clearwater Cnx

The lightweight yet protective design of the Keen Clearwater CNX made it a favorite among our testers and won it a Top Pick Award. This model can take on a huge swath of tasks, from SUPing to hiking to running errands, as long as you can handle the style. If you’re looking for a more protective sandal that likes adventure, this is the product for you. The Clearwater is on the expensive side, but we think it’s worth it if you are looking for a durable and comfortable adventure sandal. Not only is there more material than most of the other models, but it also serves a broad scope of activities so that you can get a lot of bang for your buck.

    Keen Waterproof Beach Sandals

If youve worn the Newport sandal, you probably dont want to give up the toe protection and support for other shoes. But for beach trips and casual walking days, sometimes you just want a minimal flip-flop or clog. KEEN beach sandals come in a variety of flavors for any vacation, whether youre a lay-on-the-beach type of person, or the guy whos constantly trying to sneak off to a new trailhead.

The Waimea H2 sandal offers flip-flop-like styling with the KEEN signature protective toe. With enhanced arch support and a grippier outsole, youll be set whether youre hunting down a cerveza post-shuttle, or just skipping stones by the lakeshore.

The Kona flip is a familiar workhorse and travel staple, and it comes with KEENs supportive sole, to give you a foot up on the standard. For true lounging, we recommend the Yogui clog. Wear it with socks for even more foot-cuddling comfort.
