Im throwing this question in because its asked so often.

While I believe the particular running shoe you need is very dependent on your running form, foot strike, surface and personal preference.if forced I would say this is the best running shoe.

I have now gone through 5 pairs because I found it great for both training and racing.

  • Stretched out heels or worn more one side than the other.
  • Molded foot imprints in the insole of the shoe.
  • Display noticeable creasing in the side or bottom of the sole.
  • Uppers are broken down around the ankle.
  • Shows signs of unevenness when placed on flat surface.

Dont ignore any of these signs, as they are all signs of excessive wear. But also keep in mind; a shoes lifespan can vary depending on the type of shoes, the shoe usage, surfaces on which shoes are used on, and our weight. Not all shoes are created equal, so shoes with an EVA midsole tend to wear down faster than shoes with a polyurethane midsole. Running on pavement wears down shoes faster than a track, a trail or gravel. ;A heavy runner will usually wear down their shoes faster than a lighter runner.

  • Minimalist shoes have less cushioning, so expect them to be done around 300 miles.
  • Traditional running shoes and maximum cushioning shoes tend to last until around the 500-mile mark.

“There are signs the shoe is running out of life, so I just switch those and use those basically as a lifestyle walking around-in shoe, but not for any distance running.”

While it’s essential to ensure your workout shoes are right for your feet, experts say it’s just as crucial to determine when to retire them.

Podiatrist Kel Sherkin tells his patients involved in sports to write the month and year on the inside tongue of their shoes so they can remember when they purchased them. A standard rule of thumb is to replace them every 1,000 kilometres or so, he says.

“If you’re basically doing non-pounding exercise such as the elliptical, such as the bike, your shoes can last a little longer,” says Sherkin, co-author of The Complete Handbook of Athletic Footwear. “But if you’re doing pounding such as running outside or inside, the shoe longevity will be decreased.”
