  • Soap and water work best on all kinds of shoes, including white leather.
  • If you dont want to use dish soap, you can substitute 12 cup of white vinegar.XResearch source
  • 2Clean the soles and rubber pieces with a magic eraser. Dip the magic eraser into your soapy water and wring it out. Wipe in short back and forth motions along parts of your shoes made of leather, rubber, or plastic. Keep working the eraser until all scuffs and stains are removed.XResearch source
  • Magic erasers can be found in the cleaning section of your local department store.
  • 3Scrub stains with a stiff-bristled toothbrush. Dip the head of the toothbrush into the water so the bristles are wet. Work the bristles in small circular motions on the surface of your shoes, focusing on heavily stained areas. Use a slight amount of pressure to work the cleaning solution into the shoes fabric.XResearch source
  • Keep the toothbrush you use to clean out of the bathroom to avoid any confusion.
  • Tip: If your white shoelaces are stained, take them out of your shoes and scrub them with your toothbrush separately.

  • Dont try to completely dry your shoes with the towel. Just lift off the excess cleaning solution from the surface.
  • How To Whiten A Yellowed Canvas Vans

White shoes are all in fashion lately specially with the revival of the street/sports wear, white shoes totally help complete the look.

But before it became a trend, Ive been wearing my beloved white slip-on canvas shoes by Vans. Mainly because its comfortable and goes well with my outfits at work.

Sadly, like all white shoes, it has succumbed to dirt and grime. I tried to clean it and used baking soda before to restore its condition but didnt work. I tried several shoe cleaners for whites, but wasnt successful.

Recently, I saw a post in Facebook to use tissue paper to whiten a yellowed canvas vans. At this point, I was desperate enough to try anything. I said to myself, what the heck, I have nothing to lose. Yes, I was that desperate.

Before: Dirty and Yellowed Canvas Vans

Its dirty, grimy, and yellow. I have not used this pair for a long time because of its state.

So I did the usual cleaning using soap and water, making sure I got all the dirt out. I rinsed and made sure there are no more suds. Before I leave it to dry, I wrapped it generously with toilet paper. Like lots of it! Think, mummified your shoes!

    Tissue-paper wrapped white Vans

I then left it overnight to dry. I made sure I left it in a shaded area, where it will get the heat of the sun but not direct sunlight.

The next day, I unravelled the tissue paper wrappings and saw the yellow stains on my shoes were almost completely gone and transferred to the tissue papers. But heres the result:

    White again!

This technique works best on canvas. Scrubbing lightly might work on knit material or leather, but it could also scratch the leather or damage the knit, so be more gentle with all-over leather or leather detail.

First, make a 50/50 mixture of a tablespoon of laundry detergent and a tablespoon of baking soda in a shallow bowl or small plate.

If the shoes are dry, wet the outside of the shoesthey don’t need to be soaking, just moderately wet. Then, dip a nail brush, old toothbrush, or dish brush into the detergent/baking soda mix and start scrubbing. Cover every part of the shoe that’s dirty, and keep re-dipping into the pasty mix as needed.

Let sit for 20-30 minutes, then rinse out under a running tap or in a bucket of water . Hang to dry in the shower or sunshine for an extra blast of natural whitening power.

Tips For Keeping White Shoes White

    • Spot treat stains as soon as you see them. The longer a stain is ignored, the harder it is to remove. So, if you see a scuff mark or stain, deal with it as soon as you get home.
    • If its going to be a super sunny day, and youre planning on relaxing outside all day, then avoid wearing white shoes. The sun can discolor the shoes.
    • Likewise, avoid wearing shoes on rainy muddy days. Your shoes will get a lot dirtier on days like this which will make them harder to clean.
    • Use a shoe protector. There are many different shoe protectors for different materials. This will prevent dirt, stains and moisture from ruining your bright white shoes.
    • When youre not wearing them, store them in a box away from dampness and humidity. If you leave them at the front door, they can easily pick up other dirt and dust particles.

Best Ways To Clean Your White Mesh Shoes

White sneakers are a summer wardrobe staple, and cannot be overestimated in their value. Whether youre spending your day on the beach or spending an hour on the tennis court, going to the movies or meeting a friend for an afternoon cocktail, a pair of white sneakers will fit the occasion perfectly.

In recent years, mesh footwear has been growing in popularity, and we completely understand why. Here you have a sneaker , with all the benefits that brings, but without many of the disadvantages! Mesh shoes are lightweight, airy and breathable, preventing that awful worn shoe smell, and keeping your feet cool and fresh. They can be used as a fashion item or as a sports shoe, and all you need to do is keep them clean and white. Heres how we recommend you do that.

Mesh shoes are made from plastics, not woven fabrics, and as such, there are certain advantages and disadvantages when caring for them. White mesh shoes do not have the same tendency to turn yellow that canvas shoes have, but they are more sensitive to machine washing because the mesh can break from the wear and tear, leaving holes in your otherwise perfect shoes. We dont recommend putting your mesh shoes in the machine, but if you decide to go that route, be sure to place them in a mesh laundry bag intended for sensitive items, and wash them on a gentler cycle.

  • Always wear thick, good quality socks with your mesh shoes to avoid causing sweat stains and smells.

For stubborn spots like grass stains or ground-in dirt, use the toothbrush and soapy water or a bleach pen to gently scrub the mesh fabric.

Step 1: Clap together and brush off surface dirt

Clap your shoes together a few good times outdoors. The mesh easily traps dirt particles in the fibers, and clapping the shoes against each other will loosen the trapped dirt. To make a paste, mix two parts baking soda with one part hydrogen peroxide and stir it together until it is mixed. The solution can then be applied to any dirty areas of your shoes using an old toothbrush and massaged in gently to soak into the fabric and agitate the soil. Use a clean cloth to wipe off any excess dirt that lifts from the fabric and rinse the toothbrush when it is visibly dirty. Apply two layers of the paste to the fabric of the shoes and then rinse clean with water. Allow the shoes to air dry.
