Are Any Brooks Shoes Made In The Usa
Very few, if any, Brooks shoes are made in the USA. While a few listings may say Made in USA or Imported, based on our research, its highly unlikely youll receive shoes that are made in the USA. One reason we believe that almost none of their shoes are made in the US comes from how since 2006, this is a subsidiary of Warren Buffetts Berkshire Hathaway.
While Warren Buffett is known for great business sense and frugality, we wouldnt always say that that always translates to the best choices for American manufacturing its a corporation, and corporations are known for trying to maximize profits rather than create American jobs. We dont believe Berkshire Hathaway is willing to do that at the expense of profits, and we dont see Berkshire Hathaway as the breakaway company in this regard, nor does the evidence suggest it.
We also wouldnt expect to see this change in the future since the brand has expressed no interest in producing shoes in the United States. However, we did spot one area where you can buy American-made products from Brooks, and it isnt in their shoes.
Brooks partners with The Sock Factory in Hickory, North Carolina, to produce American-made socks through a third party. Even with the manufacturing in the US, we find the overall hiring of people here negligible, with only 60 American workers in 2021. Some of the American-made socks that you can buy from the brand include:
- Brooks Run-in-Three-Pack Socks
- Brooks Carbonite Socks
Reasons for Skepticism
Is This Website Legitimate
Occasionally, fraudsters create imposter websites that appear to be by Brooks and sell Brooks products. Often the products are offered at a significant discount to entice you to purchase and share your payment information. Social media such as Facebook and Instagram are sometimes used to promote these fake websites. They can be sophisticated, so it’s important to be vigilant!
Although Brooks works hard to shut down imposter websites, be careful to only shop on legitimate websites. It could be said that Brooks’ focus on running shoes actually began in 1972, when Yale graduate Frank Shorter won the Olympic marathon. Running suddenly captivates the worlds attention. Instead of making anything from athletic shoes to combat boots that would keep the factory turning, Brooks starts to think about limiting its focus.
Are Brooks Shoes Worth It
Despite them having a huge manufacturing presence in Vietnam, they offer reasonably priced running shoes that have become a favorite among casual and long-distance runners. Their shoes feel durable and comfortable, which matters in a runners environment. We wouldnt consider them a great American-made brand, and thats fine for the right people who need a more budget-friendly choice.
In case youd like a more American-made brand, check out the article that we wrote here on New Balance shoes and where theyre made. Weve done a lot of research on American-made shoes and understand where to buy the right ones.
We cant necessarily blame Brooks for taking its manufacturing elsewhere if we continue to support companies that produce in other countries. If we support American-made companies, we will see a roaring return in US manufacturing.

Brooks Shoes for women are an exceptional shoe brand that is designed for a multitude of activities. Since each shoe type has different features and is made to serve a different purpose like walking, running, lifting weights, or leisure time, its a good idea to consider a few factors before you purchase Brooks Shoes.
Does Brooks make shoes for activities other than running?
Brooks shoes are not just for running or walking. They offer great comfort and support for anyone who needs the stability of a good shoe or anyone who is on their feet for long periods of time.
Can you get Brooks shoes in different styles?
One of the benefits of Brooks shoes is that they make several different styles. Some shoes are wider or narrower to fit numerous types of feet. Their shoes may be light-weight with a thin soul if you need a shoe that allows you to move fast. Other shoes are heavy-duty to withstand some wear and tear. You can get Brooks shoes with different types of tread depending on what you need them for and what activities you will be doing in them.

Who Owns Brooks Shoes
Berkshire Hathaway has owned Brooks shoes since 2006 when their subsidiary Fruit of the Loom bought it, which is the same company that famous investor Warren Buffett owns. They even released a limited edition Warren Buffett shoe: a graphic of Warren Buffett on the sole and the label of Berkshire Hathaway on the backcheck out the Ghost 13s Berkshire Hathaway Edition if interested.
The regular Ghost also happens to be the best-selling model for the Brooks brand. Berkshire Hathaway paid $598.3 million for the label.
Originally, Brooks was under the brand Russell Athletics, but Berkshire Hathaway turned Brooks into its own subsidiary in 2012. One of the great things about Berkshire is that they usually own companies for the long term, which means that you wont see the products degrade in quality. Companies that own them over a shorter time may simply want to capitalize on the popular label without regard for the quality before selling it.
That does it for this article, we hope we answered the question of where are Brooks running shoes made and cleared up any misconceptions. I personally love their shoes but wish more were made in the USA.

S: Jim Weber Berkshire Hathaway Biomogo
In 2001, Jim Weber, a former Brooks board member, was named president and CEO of the company. At the time, the company’s market share was low, and bankruptcy had again become a concern. Weber cut lower-priced footwear from the Brooks product line, added an on-site lab and staff engineers, and focused the company on technical-performance running shoes. As the brand was rebuilt, its annual revenue fell to $20 million. Three years later, it was $69 million.
Brooks was acquired by Russell Athletic in 2004. In 2006, Russell was purchased by Fruit of the Loom and Brooks became a subsidiary of Fruit of the Loom’s parent company, Berkshire Hathaway. It became an independent subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway in 2011.
In the mid-2000s, Brooks introduced High Performance Green Rubber, a material it developed for outsoles that used sand rather than petroleum. It subsequently developed BioMoGo, the first biodegradable mid-sole for running shoes. It used a non-toxic, natural additive that increased the rate of biodegradation by encouraging microbes in the soil to break the material down into nutrients that could be used by plants and animals, biodegrading approximately 20 times faster than traditional soles. By using BioMoGo, Brooks estimated that it would cut more than 30 million pounds of landfill waste over a 20-year period. The BioMoGo technology was open source.

Are Brooks Running Shoes Made In China
Very few if any Brooks shoes are made in China anymore due to the threat of tariffs. In the past, one-third of all their shoes came from China, but we dont think they have a factory there any longer. We heard at one point that they wanted to keep 10 percent of their operations in China, but we think that they pulled out of China altogether. This was due to how the threat of a 45 percent tariff would drastically hurt their business. The threat of it made Vietnam a more worthwhile manufacturing partner.

Sustainability And Social Responsibility
Brooks Running has implemented environmentally conscious practices into their business and manufacturing practices. Several models of their shoes have High Performance Rubber Green outsoles that are made with sand instead of petroleum. The company says that it uses recycled materials to make other parts of their shoes “whenever possible”, including laces, fabrics, hangtags and packaging.
In 2014, the company partnered with Bluesign Technologies to evaluate, manage, and eliminate priority chemicals used in the process of manufacturing apparel. Manufacturers that become Bluesign system partners are required to establish management systems for improving resource productivity, consumer safety, water emissions, air emissions, and occupational health and safety.
Brooks is also a member of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, a global trade organization that works to reduce the environmental and social impact of apparel and footwear products. With the some collections, Brooks offers vegan products.
Built in 2014, the Brooks headquarters meet the environmental standards of Seattle’s Deep Green Pilot Program. The building captures and reuses at least 50 percent of storm water on the site and uses 75 percent less energy than a typical commercial building in the city. As of 2016, it was “one of the greenest buildings in the world”.

S: Bankruptcy The Chariot Brooks For Women
In 1980, as a result of production issues with Brooks’s manufacturing facility in Puerto Rico, defective shoes began to arrive at sporting goods stores. Nearly 30 percent of the shoes were returned, and Brooks scrapped 50,000 pairs. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and was purchased at auction by footwear manufacturer Wolverine World Wide in 1981.
In 1982, stability became the top priority for runners, and Brooks introduced the Chariot, a medial post shoe that featured an angled wedge of harder-density foam in the midsole. Thicker on the inside of the shoe and tapered toward the outside, the Chariot represented a “sea change” in running-shoe design. In 1987, with Brooks for Women, it launched an anatomically adjusted line of shoes designed for women.

Brooks Shoes: Made In Vietnam
Over the years, production has shifted away from China even without regard to the tariffs, as Vietnam has become the emerging player in the clothing and shoe manufacturing industry. Companies can get even better deals here than they could in China. The Brooks Ghost 12s are made in Vietnam. There are 11 factories in Vietnam , which demonstrates the level of production taking place there.
The brand partners with third-party manufacturers to produce its shoes, and they have four factories in Ho Chi Minh City in the south. Despite that, we find that most of their factories sit in the north and the northeast.
Looking at shoe production as a whole from all companies in Vietnam, we found that much of the production comes from Ho Chi Minh City.
With Brooks Shoes, however, you had some production in the north and northeast. Also, to paint a picture of US manufacturing versus the manufacturing in Vietnam, the factory in the United States only hires 60 employees. Contrasted with the number of employees in Vietnam, they hire 31,339 total workers. Now, keep in mind that these are all third-party factories. That means that we dont know how much they use them, but we can rest assured that much of the production happens here.
None of this means that you cant find Brooks products made elsewhere, but we would say that the bulk of its products come from this country. Furthermore, Weber has also said that he planned to continue expanding manufacturing in this region over the long term.
S: Introduction Of Eva The Vantage Runner’s World #1 Running Shoe
In 1975, Brooks worked with elite runners, including , a former Olympian, to design a running shoe. The collaboration produced the Villanova, Brooks’s first high-performance running shoe. It was the first running shoe to use EVA, an air-infused foam that was quickly adopted by other athletic brands. Brooks followed the Villanova with the Vantage, a running shoe constructed with a wedge to address overpronation. In 1977, based on newly developed measurements of cushioning, flexibility, and durability, the Vantage was ranked at #1 in the annual Runner’s World running guide. Runners embraced Brooks’ technology, and the demand “exploded”. Towards the end of the decade Brooks was among the top three selling brands in the US. The Vanguard was another running shoe which appeared in this decade.

S: The Beast Adrenaline Ownership Changes Apparel Run Happy
In 1992, Brooks launched the Beast, a motion control shoe that integrated diagonal rollbar technology. In 1994, the Adrenaline GTSan abbreviation for go-to shoewas released. With a firmer midsole density, the Adrenaline GTS was built on a semi-curve, an accommodation for runners with a high arch and wide forefoot. The Beast became a best seller, and the Adrenaline GTS went on to become one of the best-selling running shoes of all time.
Wolverine moved Brooks away from the niche running market to a generalist athletic brand. The “class to mass” strategy was unsuccessful, and Brooks was sold to Norwegian private equity company The Rokke Group for $21 million in 1993. Brooks moved to Rokke’s Seattle location following its acquisition. In 1998, Rokke sold a majority interest in Brooks to J.H. Whitney & Co., a Connecticut private equity firm.
Brooks introduced a full-line of technical running and fitness apparel for women and men in the spring of 1997. It also expanded into the walking category with the introduction of performance walking shoes.
Brooks’s Run Happytag line first appeared in print advertising in 1999. Rather than depicting running as a grueling pursuit, as competitive brands did, Run Happy was based on the idea that runners love running, and suggested that Brooks products allowed “runners to have the running experience they were looking for”.
Is It Ok To Wear Running Shoes For Walking
While running shoes are designed to be durable for the rigorous demands of running, they are excellent as walking shoes, too. The qualities that make running shoes ideal for running also make them great for walking: Cushioned midsoles absorb impact. Lightweight mesh or knit uppers breathe easily to keep you comfortable.
