Why Stores Do It
Why do stores and shoe manufacturers hold raffles? Its simple: human nature. Humans are hard-wired to be competitive. When they win something, it makes them feel good, especially when its really hard to win. People want what they cant have.
In some ways, stores have almost been forced into having raffles. The high demand that happens when a new sneaker is launched has caused stores to come up with innovative ways to combat some of the problems that have been coming up whenever there is a new sneaker launch.
One reason stores hold raffles is because holding a raffle is less dangerous than having people line up for the shoes outside the store.
In the past, some shoes were only being released through retail outlets, and there were no online sales. Sneaker lovers lined up outside stores for days, even camping out in the cold. Violence in the lines was rampant.
Its not just in the US. People all over the world lined up for days outside of stores, and bad behavior soon erupted. People getting pushed and shoved was common. One young man was even shot in the foot for line jumping.
The problems in the lines caused some states to call in armed guards to keep order. People punched each other, and fistfights broke out. There can be many injuries in lines waiting for new sneaker launches.
Controlling who gets to buy the shoes can be hard on customer loyalty when customers feel like they never have a fair chance to buy the pair they want.
How Have Sneaker Bots Evolved
Sneaker bots seriously kicked off in 2012 with the release of the Air Jordan Doernbecher 9.
Nike chose to release the shoe via Twitter. Shoppers could reserve the shoe by being first to direct message the company.
Quickly, people created bots to scour Twitters API and DM Nike after any tweets with terms like reserve now or Doernbecher. With these bots you could send hundreds of DMs in a tenth of a second, says one botmaker.
Humans didnt stand a chance.
At the same time, ecommerce platforms like Shopify appeared, making it easier to sell products online without technical expertise. With the Nike Twitter releases and increased online sneaker sales, botmakers began developing more advanced bots.
Originally, botmakers would sell their sneaker bots to shoppers who paid a premium to improve their chances of snagging sneakers. Whole sub-Reddit threads like /sneakerbots and /shoebots are dedicated to sharing knowledge on how to use bots to score a pair of kicks.
But then the botmakers realized: why sell a one-time product if they can charge a fee for every sneaker release and run the bots themselves?
And so the Add to Cart services were born. Sneakerheads go to a botmakers website, enter their order and payment information, and wait for the bot to do its dirty work. If successful, the sneakerhead pays a fee to the Add to Cart service for the bot-purchased sneakers.

Everything You Need To Know About Preventing Sneaker Bots
Sneaker bots plague releases. But what can retailers do? How did we get here? Will legislation fix things? How do sneaker raffles remove bots from the equation? Are there other options? These are the questions well deal with in this blog.
If youre a sneaker retailer, you know bots are a huge problem in the $42 billion sneaker business.
According to Impervas 2020 Bad Bot report over 18% of traffic to ecommerce sites comes from bad bots.
But sneakerheads know that in their world, bots dominate the game. On hyped releases, close to 100% of traffic comes from bots, according to Akamais director of threat research.
Limited-edition releases and high-profile collaborations generate so much demand that an entire resale industry has emerged.
Sneakers become assets, just like stocks or artwork. If you visited StockXwhat the New York Times called A Nasdaq for Sneakerheadsyoud be forgiven for thinking you were looking at shares of Nike stock, not a resale site for Nike sneakers.
Where the money and hype are, bots follow.
Bad bots are bad for business. They erode the trust sneakerheads have in your brand. They sever the connection with genuine customers who could return to buy and evangelize your brand. And they create overwhelming traffic that can crash your site, losing sales on products across the board.

Some Common And Costly Mistakes
Although I had done my research, I was still in over my head and had a lot to learn. After my biggest month, I made some preventable mistakes that nearly caused me to lose everything I had earned.
First, I ended up with some fakes and it was a mess trying to get my money back from the seller or PayPal.
Nicks Notes: As you might expect with shoes that sell for $1000, theres a thriving black market for counterfeit sneakers.
The other issue I ran into was with my PayPal account itself. They werent used to me taking in such large amounts of money per month, so PayPal put a hold on my money. Since I relied on reinvesting that income into more inventory, that hold took me several months to recover from.
I think I could have avoided that if Id warned them in advance that I would be taking in as much money in a month that I used to take in in a year, but then again I had no idea that I would make so much money so quickly!
Fortunately, I made a recovery and have gathered more knowledge than if it had been smooth sailing from the very start.

Write Your Messenger Flow Accordingly
For this guide, well use the example of a as an entry point. As this ad type starts with a greeting message you set up in Facebook Ads Manager, well have to slightly tweak the copy of the Messenger flow in ShopPop.
The first thing youll need to do is go to Facebook Ads Manager and:
Start the conversation. Start your Messenger flow where the button left off to create a seamless customer journey. Next, ask people to leave their email address to enter the draw.
Capture email. Use an action component to create a segment of all the participants that left their email address. Since your limited edition sneakers will have limited availability for each shoe size, lets add a shoe size capture component.
Gather shoe sizes. In an embedded flow, use Quick Replies to separate mens sizes from womens sizes. An action component will add a mens/womens value to a custom field in peoples user properties when they click the Quick Reply buttons.
Next, add an ask for user data component, create a custom field for Shoe Size and set the validation type to text, so people can leave their shoe sizes. This data will automatically be saved in each users properties.
Well let the Notify me button trigger another flow that drives traffic to your store and contains a Get support button that raises the conversation in your Inbox.

How To Enter Sneaker Raffles: Your Guide To Securing The Highest
We may earn a commission when you buy something from links on this page.
It seems unheard of to enter a raffle simply for the chance to purchase a pair of shoes, but with the popularity of sneakers increasing over the past 5 years, that’s exactly what we have to do to get the latest sneakers.
Whether youre an OG sneakerhead or you’re just looking to cop the latest pair of high-heat kicks youve had your eye on, securing the hottest releases takes more than just jumping online 2 minutes before the drop to get in a queue, or hoping that your size will still be in stock. Getting your hands on the highest-heat releases requires not just luck, but a little bit of effort and knowledge. Entering sneaker raffles is one of the only ways you can cop the most hyped pairs but raffle releases aren’t the most simple of things to understand, so we’ve put together a little ‘How To’ guide for anyone who wants to be in the know with where and how to enter.
Unlike a few years ago when the only sneakers which brought a queue were limited Nike Air Jordan 1s, there are a lot more high-heat releases dropping every month. Limited edition sneakers are becoming more sought after and there are still only limited stock numbers available. So if you’ve ever wondered why you haven’t been able to get your hands on those hyped releases, then you’re not alone!
How To Get Ahead In The Sneaker Game And Make Some Serious Money
Im about to catch some heat for this one. Im going to show you how to resell sneakers, and how to make money doing it. This is one of those times that Im glad I write under a pseudonym . If you ask any die-hard sneakerhead, anyone whos been in the game for more than ~5 years, whats the worst thing to ever happen to the sneaker community, theyd all have the same answer: Resellers. Somewhere along the evolution of the marketplace, people realized there was money to be made in buying limited-release sneakers and reselling them for more than the retail price. And were not talking a couple of bucks here, either some shoes resell for two to three times the retail price. Even the most casual sneaker fan probably has an idea of the money to be made reselling Yeezys, for example: a shoe that retails at $220 can go for as much as $1200. Talk about margins thats better than selling weed, by a long shot. So we know theres money out there in sneakers. But how do you get a piece of that pie? There are a few things youll need to know before you start raking in cash from shoes. Lets get it:

Choosing The Right Release
Before you buy a shoe to resell, you need to make sure itll actually have value on the secondary market. Most shoes would actually fetch less than retail at resell. But a select few will let you double or triple your investment. So what determines the resale price of a shoe? Two factors: Note that a shoe must possess BOTH of these qualities to be worth investing in. One isnt enough. If a shoe is hyped but not rare, anyone can get their hands on a pair for retail and you wont make any money. If a shoe is rare but not hyped, nobody can get their hands on a pair, but nobody cares and you wont make any money. Ive got a pair of Pumas that were limited to 400 pairs worldwide, which makes them more rare than any adidas Yeezy, but I cant even get the retail price for em. But when a pair is both rare and hyped, youre in the sweet spot. Check local Facebook buy-and-sell groups if you see people asking Are there lineups for X shoe? or what will resell be like on these? chances are theres money to be made. Check blogs like Sneaker Bar Detroit or Sneaker News for release dates and information on release numbers. This will give you an idea of the rarity, and if you checked local Facebook groups and forums, youll know what the hype is like too. Now you know what shoes to choose. But then you have to know
Release And Raffle Info
Most sneaker releases nowadays are raffled off. Since a few of todays sneakers are very limited, the stores try to make the release as fair as possible through various raffles, such as the classic “online raffle”, which is usually processed via a form or Instagram. Here you simply enter your data and the desired shoe size and hope that your name will be drawn at random.
However, many stores also organize in-store raffles, which offer locals an even better chance, as you usually have to register in store.
If it doesn’t work out with a particular sneaker release, don’t give up. At some point you will usually be rewarded for your efforts – but sometimes it takes a little longer. Good luck to everyone on the upcoming sneaker releases!
