As previously stated, the overwater bungalows at each of the three resorts are almost identical in terms of size and amenities. So, there isnt one you could say is the best. However, because they are at different resorts, the decision on which overwater bungalow to choose, likely comes down to resort preference.

The Palafitos Of El Dorado Maroma Playa Del Carmen Mexico
In Playa del Carmen on Mexicos Riviera Maya, El Dorado Maroma is home to Mexicos only overwater bungalows, known as their Palafitos. One of a few room classes at the adults-only resort, these villas come with traditional glass bottom floor panels. They also feature gorgeously designed private decks with infinity plunge pools and outdoor showers. The decor is glam inside as well with Aztec style prints, Zapote wood furnishings and lots of white granite.
The romantic property is all-inclusive so there is no need to worry about spoiling yourself rotten from a food and drink perspective. There are seven restaurants onsite serving everything from Mexican to Peruvian, Italian and Asian fare. Multiple bars and lounges, including swim-up options, serve premium spirits. There is nightly entertainment including DJs and dancing. Youll also have access to 24-hour butler service.

Hotel Xcaret Arte All Parks / All Fun Inclusive

Attached to the popular and famous naturally occurring Xcaret eco-archeological park, the Hotel Xcaret Arte is an adults-only luxury all-inclusive resort that just opened in 2021. Its unlike any hotel or resort youve ever seen. Located a bit south of Playa del Carmen, the resort is cut out of a jungle along the Caribbean with stunning canals connecting the different sections, and guests are able to use kayaks or stand-up paddle boards to tour the place at their own pace.
If this sounds even a bit interesting you should watch a video of the place. It will be a bucket-list resort for many people while others may somehow not find it interesting at all. The reviews are excellent even though they only recently opened, although they do have experience because its adjacent to their other hotel that is more family friendly. Look for me at this one because I cant wait to go myself.
Coco View Resort Honduras
Coco View is ideal for tourists searching for authentic, romantic overwater bungalows. The resort offers spacious overwater bungalows, perfectly air-conditioned to ensure ultimate comfort. Guests can enjoy the panoramic views of the Caribbean from the private porch or decide to experience the gentle ocean breezes while relaxing in a hammock.

Sandals Grande St Lucian In St Lucia
The most extravagant of the three St Lucia Sandals resorts is also home to the best beach of any St. Lucia Resort. The imposing pool sits on the beach overlooking glittering Rodney Bay the resort lies on a peninsula between the bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Picture-perfect views surround you no matter where you are at the resort. The sunsets are spectacular.
Sandals Royal Caribbean Over
Sandals Royal Caribbean has two different Over-the-Water options. The overwater bungalows and a more expensive overwater villas. There are 12 bungalows and 5 villas. The villas and the bungalows are both located off the resorts private island. All of the villas face the ocean which provides privacy. The Bungalows surround the heart shaped boardwalk shown in the image above. Some face the ocean while others face the resort.

One of the two Sandals overwater bungalow resorts in Jamaica is the Sandals Royal Caribbean Resort which is ONLY for couples! The Sandals Royal Caribbean is located on its own private island, which makes it special among the Sandals South Coast Jamaica overwater bungalows as you will literally take a private water taxi from your overwater bungalow to the main resort!
Here youll find 17 Sandals Royal Caribbean Overwater Bungalows, 5 of which have their private infinity pools, an expansive patio, glass floor sections, a walk-in closet, and a personal butler service. All of them have access to outdoor fire pits, an overwater bar, and afternoon tea every day! Sounds incredible, right?

St. Lucia is considered one of the Caribbeans most beautiful islands and the Sandals Grande St. Lucian is one of three Sandals resorts on St. Lucia. The main reason I chose this one is that it features 9 amazing overwater bungalows, which are also the only overwater bungalows in the Caribbean that arent on Jamaica. They are called Over-the-Water Honeymoon Butler Bungalows because you also get 24-hour butler service included in the room rate. Of course, they arent cheap.
The resort is on a stunning beach on a gentle bay with among the finest locations on the whole island. The least expensive room class is the Caribbean Walkout Deluxe, which also comes with all of the premium extras including free golf at the two nearby courses. These are a good choice for those who dont spend a lot of time in their rooms, but there are many other options all the way up to Beachfront Butler Suites with Private Pools.

Rosewood Mayakoba Riviera Maya Mexico

As I said in the introduction, there are only 3 over-the-water bungalows in Jamaica, two of them located on the south coast, but this doesnt mean you cannot have a luxury stay by the ocean anywhere else in the island!
If you are looking specifically for an overwater bungalow experience but the 3 above didnt quite tickle your fancy, there are plenty of other overwater bungalows in the Caribbean or the Maldives that you should have a look at.But if you are set on visiting Jamaica, there are still many more exclusive hotels located right on the beach, so youll get the peace of staying by the water and access to great amenities such as floating water hammocks, a private beach, delicious dining options, and more. Basically everything you can find in the overwater bungalow resorts except the overwater part.

Overwater Bungalows At Sandals South Coast

Sandals Royal Caribbean Resort Montego Bay Jamaica
The primary advantages of this resort are that its the only one to have the infinity-pool overwater bungalows, and that its by far the closest to the airport and the fastest to reach. Starting from the US or Canada you can be in your overwater bungalow at this resort about two hours sooner than at Sandals South Coast, and that can be helpful for a shorter stay.
The disadvantages are that its a smaller resort that is rather close to the end of the runway by the Montego Bay airport. You WILL hear planes taking off several times per hour during daylight hours, and its fairly loud. On the other hand, the planes are in the air and out of the area so quickly that the sound only lasts about 5 seconds each time. Its amazing how quickly you can get used to this, and also keep in mind that this is Sandals most premium resort in all of Jamaica.
Overwater bungalows location
The overwater bungalows here are located on an exclusive private island across the lagoon from the main resort, accessible by a short ferry ride that goes frequently. There is also a restaurant and beach bar on this island so it feels very special and guests can spend the whole day here if they prefer.
This resort also offers the best swimming under the overwater bungalows and it will remind guests of Bora Bora or the Maldives.
How To Get To Sandals Royal Caribbean
There are direct flights to Montego Bay from more than 20 cities in the US and Canada. Plus, Sandals Royal Caribbean is located just 10 minutes from Sangster International Airport (MBJ. Over-the-water villa guests will be whisked to the resort from either MBJ or Kingston airport via private BMW luxury airport transfers including a private water taxi.

How Much Does Staying In A Sandals Overwater Bungalow Cost
As you would expect it is not cheap. But, there are several ways you can save money and get the best price. Make sure to book directly on Sandals website and watch the sales, . Check rates with and without airfare, sometimes it is cheaper to book your airfare with them since they getting a different rate than you and I can get. Definitely price flights out on your preferred booking engine, we usually use Skyscanner.
Another money-saving option is to split your stay in two different room categories. You can spend a few nights in one of the cheapest Sandals rooms and then splurge a few nights in an overwater bungalow. We would suggest staying at least 2 nights in an overwater bungalow, the ideal time would be 3-4 nights.
Sandals Royal Caribbean Resort

Just a few minutes offshore from Sandals Royal Caribbean Resort is a private island, youll find luxurious over-the-water bungalows.
The main Gregorian-style Great House displays this resorts decidedly British heritage, which is also noted in unique traditions youll find here such as afternoon tea and a rousing game of croquette. Enjoy global gourmet at one of nine on-site restaurants, or explore one of the 12 restaurants you will also have access to at a nearby Sandals resort. One experience you wont want to miss is riding to one of the offshore restaurants called Royal Thai by hopping aboard an authentic dragon boat.

Royalton Antigua Resort And Spa Deep Bay Antigua
The only overwater bungalow option in Antigua is the Royalton Antigua Resort. The bungalows at this five-star, all-inclusive property sit on stilts overlooking the turquoise sea in Deep Bay, just a 30-minute drive from the international airport.
The overwater bungalows here are two-story affairs with decks off of each. The top floor has a jetted infinity pool on its deck, while the lower level deck has an over-the-water hammock and direct access to the sea. Although the Royalton property welcomes families, the overwater bungalows are reserved for adults only. Inside the villas, youll find the usual glass bottom floors and luxe decor. Butler service is also offered.
The Royalton sits on a pretty stretch of white sand beach. There are six restaurants to choose from including a steakhouse, Caribbean and Italian. For something extra book the C/X Culinary Experience, which is a chefs table dining experience for adults only. There is an extra fee for this, however.

Sandals Royal Caribbean Overwater Bungalows
This is the most unique overwater bungalows Sandals Resorts offers. They are on Sandals Cay a private island, the private boat Royal Duffy is exclusively for overwater bungalow guests to transfer you to and from the mainland. There are even five overwater bungalows with private infinity pools.
Guests have exchange privileges with Sandals Montego Bay, which has 12 restaurants to try out. This is a great way to check out another property youd like to stay at on your next vacation.
The overwater bungalows do get some boat traffic from the nearby Rodney Bay Marina, plus some hotel guests will try and swim or kayak right up to the rooms. There is security on boats/jetskis that tell people to move further away. Depending on which room you stay in, some rooms face the nearby Riu Montego Bay resort so it is not super private.
Just like at Sandals South Coast, the overwater bungalows form a heart and look amazing from a drone. But dont bother traveling with a drone, most drones will lock you out from flying due to the proximity to the airport, and if are able to fly it wont be for long as the Sandals security will ask you to stop.
