Kyrie Irving isnt a fan of the latest Kyrie Irving signature shoe created by Nike.
The Brooklyn Nets star had harsh criticism of the latest of his sneakers, the Kyrie 8, with the brand.
In a response to a leaked photo of the newest edition of his sneaker, Irving called the shoes trash and said that Oregon-based Nike plans to release the kicks despite his disapproval.
I have nothing to do with the design or marketing of the upcoming #Kyrie8, IMO these are trash! Irving wrote on Wednesday. I have absolutely nothing to do with them! Nike plans to release it without my okay regardless of what I say, so I apologize in advance to all of my sneakerheads and true supporters of the #KAI11 brand.
Irvings comment was posted under an Instagram post from an Irving sneaker fan, . As of Wednesday afternoon, the comment by the seven-time NBA All-Star had been liked over 8,000 times and was still on the post.
A similar situation with Nike sneakers leaking without approval happened just last month with Vanessa Bryant, the widow of the late Kobe Bryant. A pair of the Nike Mambacita Kobe 6 sneakers were shipped and in the hands of an unidentified person despite Vanessa saying the shoe was not approved for sale or production.

I have absolutely nothing to do with them! Nike plans to release it without my okay, regardless of what I say, so I apologize in advance to all my sneaker heads and true supporters.”
Fans of Irving expressed disappointment around the claim that Nike did not “involve him in this design of his own signature shoe” after his past designs were best-sellers for the retailer. Nike did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.

Irving signed with Nike in 2011, with Kyrie branded shoes launching three years later. Since then, Nike has created six signature shoes as part of Irving’s sponsorship deal.
On StockX, the highest Kyrie shoe resale bid is $4,000 for the Kyrie 3 Mountain Dew K.A.R.E Kit. The Kyrie 7 Expressions shoe sells for an average of $219 on the site.

Eighteen months ago, the Golden State Warriors were an unstoppable super team with Kevin Durant, Irving himself was a surefire bet to re-sign with the Boston Celtics, and the Brooklyn Nets were struggling to win games. Not even the all-seeing eye on the pull-tab of the Kyrie 4 signature shoe could’ve predicted where things sit now.
For this signature sneaker, Irving and Nethongkome had a couple of big-picture goals, which they explained on the newest episode of Signature Sneakers. Irving was especially concerned with paying homage to his heroesnamely, Michael Jordan. “The most important thing in this shoe compared to the others is, literally, just comfortability,” Irving says. “I imagined what the upper would be on a Jordan 2, on a basketball shoe that was evolved into 2019. Just imagine having a shoe that you slip on and slip off, and it’s the most comfortable thing that you’re putting on.”
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Kyrie Irving signature shoe without some deep thoughts. The 11 non-black colorways are packed with subliminal references, while also each representing a city that’s made an impact on Irving during his travels.

This is an unfortunate turn of events for Irving, who has regularly produced one of the highest-selling shoes of any superstar in the NBA. Its clear the design of the shoe other than the fact that one of the games best point guards wears them has played a role in its popularity.
Nike has prided itself on collaborating with its athletes during the design process, but its obvious Irving wasnt consulted as it relates to eighth edition of his shoe.
In fairness to the seven-time All-Star , it isnt uncommon for athletes, especially basketball stars to voice frustration over their signature sneaker. If you recall, LeBron James loathed the design of the LeBron 6, which resulted in Nike starting from scratchwhich ultimately paved the way for former sketcher Jason Petrie to become James lead designer.
Even Michael Jordan wasnt a fan of the Air Jordan. In other words, Irvings outburst was hardly a diamond in the rough, so fans shouldnt be quick to jump him for it.

Nike Kyrie 7 Release Details
First to release is the Nike Kyrie 7 in four Preheat colorways inspired by sport, art, film, and music. The four will debut at select retailers on November 11th. Each will come in a mystery box style, which the buyers wont know which pair they will get until they have secured and unboxed. The retail price is $140. Expect more colorways to release during 2020 and throughout 2021.
Part of the Preheat collection includes the Special FX that is inspired by Irvings love for filmmaking. The Expressions pays tribute to his love of art and the freedom of artistic expression. Next, we have the Icon of Sport that references Irvings hoop influencers. Lastly, the Soundwave pair is inspired by his love for music and how the vibrations influence his game.
Next up, is the Kyrie 7 Sisterhood that was designed to empower female athletes everywhere. A release will take place on November 14th for $130.
Last up for confirmed releases so far is the BK Black iteration. This pair celebrates his Brooklyn home court that will release first to Nike Members on November 16th. Following a wider release will debut on November 23rd. The retail price is $130.
