Rafael Nadal Provides Insight On New Nikecourt Cage 4 Tennis Shoe
Rafael Nadal showing off the new NikeCourt Zoom Vapor Cage 4.
Internally, Nike called the new NikeCourt Zoom Vapor Cage 4 the Harvey Dent shoe, referring to Batman character Two-Face and his clean versus rough sides.
Debuting on the feet of the likes of Rafael Nadal, Kyle Edmond, Karen Khachanov and Andrey Rublev this month in Australia, the new Vapor Cage 4 really blends the clean aesthetic and speed of the Vapor line with the durability and stability of the Cage line.
A major change for the Cage franchise was a concept taken directly from Nadal, moving the Nike Zoom Air unit from the shoes heel to the forefoot since tennis players now spend so much time on their forefoot, receiving serves and transitioning across the court. Using insight from the Nike Sports Research Labs on differing cushioning options, designers used a more responsive foam in the heel and a Zoom Air airbag in the forefoot larger than what was previously in the heel.
The two sides of the Vapor Cage 4 from Nike offers a striking difference.
Nadal didnt stop there with his insights. He also wanted a shoe that was stable when he stretched wide but provided the ability to bounce back toward the court. Thats where the concept of blending the Vapor and the Cage came together.
The Cage-inspired side of the Cage 4 pulls the outsole pattern across the entire midsole.
The Vapor-inspired side of the Vapor Cage 4 from Nike has a clean, speed-focused design.

The Real Highlight Of The Federer/nadal Final Their Shoes
5 years ago
If you tuned into the Australian Open this year, you were likely captivated by two things: firstly, some legendary tennis, and secondly, some brightly coloured footwear popping against Melbourne Parks blue courts.
Many players, including Aussies Bernard Tomic and Nick Kyrgios, appeared in pink or pinkish-orange footwear, and the trend climaxed at the mens singles final where Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal both played in electric Nike shoes and black socks trimmed with neon.
Though the pairs shoes looked identical to those sitting courtside or watching on TV, theyre not actually the same make.
The differences between the two are subtle, but important . Federer, who plans his on-court looks up to a year and a half in advance, told Vogue that he favours details and bold colours.
If youre looking to copy the champions footwear, Federers shoes retail for US$180 and Nadals for US$165. Both are lightweight shoes specifically designed for tennis.
The pairs exact socks arent yet available on Nikes online store but the closest youll get is the NikeGrip Elite Crew tennis sock, which doesnt quite have the same pop in the current colours the Elite Crew all-orange sock, worn by other players in the tournament, is currently sold out.
