Takeaway: Prioritize Product Quality As Much As Sustainability
Being a green business isnt an excuse to make mediocre products. The average shopper cares more about what its like to use a product than how its made or what its made of. Its in your businesss best interest to focus on quality. Start by conducting market research to determine your biggest competitors. Based on their strengths and weaknesses, brainstorm how you might update your own product development to stand out from these brands. Another idea: survey your shoppers to understand their product expectations. What features could they do away with, and which are essential? And what would they like to see added to your product? These survey responses will help you figure out what to prioritize in product development. If youre worried about compromising your environmental values, dont be. Product quality and sustainability can be aligned, as Allbirds shows. The factors that make their sneakers so comfortablenatural materials and simple designsare also what make them environmentally friendly.

Thinking Of Getting Some Allbirds Heres What To Consider
#1 What are the workplace practices of the business behind the shoe?Allbirds is a certified B-Corporation and partner with Reda, a 150-year-old wool factory in Italy, to manufacture their shoes. These shoes are ethically crafted from start to finish.
#2 What is the environmental impact of purchasing these shoes? As mentioned before, Allbirds is a carbon neutral company and they are rigorous in analyzing their supply chain in order to find ways to cut down on their environmental impact.
#3 Do these shoes perform well in wet weather conditions? While not every pair is meant to splash around in, one line of Allbirds is made for the rain. Their Mizzles are specifically designed with water in mind. But, no matter what model you go with, if you get them a little dirty during your outdoor excursions, dont worry, every pair is machine washable!
#4 Whats different about Allbirds sizing?Other than their insane comfort, Allbirds does have one quirk worth mentioning. With the exception of their tree-runners, they dont do half-sizes. The companys recommendation is to always size-upso if you are typically a 9.5, get a 10. Their materials stretch naturally, so if they are snug at first, give them time!

Allbirds has been around for quite a few years now, but the brand thats known for making the worlds most comfortable shoes is showing no signs of slowing down.

New Zealand Woollen Shoe Company Allbirds Now Making Socks
Allbirds made its name as the US$1 billion valued ‘unicorn’ shoe business from New Zealand making footwear favoured by the tech elite.
But co-founders Tim Brown and Joey Zwillinger have even bigger ambitions than that.
“I think if it was just a wool shoe, that was trying to make a passion play into the industry, neither of us would really have been interested and we got really connected on the idea that it could be a lot more,” Zwillinger says.
After raising a further US$50 million last year, Allbirds on Wednesday unveiled its first non-shoe product: ‘Trino’ socks which look and feel like a standard pair of woolly socks but are made from plants, merino wool and recycled bottles.
“It turns out making socks is enormously complicated if you let it be so,” Zwillinger says.
Socks were a logical next step for the footwear startup with around half of its customers wearing their shoes with socks. But the pair’s vision for Allbirds is more far reaching.
“We had ideas from even before we started really to focus on things that we would eventually bring to market like our tree product from eucalyptus fibres and our sugar foam outsole,” Zwillinger says.
“The name Allbirds talks to treading more lightly when making products. This is the first we have made and we know there will be many more.”
WOOL, THE MIRACLE FIBRE
Brown came up with the idea for Allbirds when he was a professional footballer for the Newcastle Jets in Australia and Wellington Phoenix in New Zealand.
You Can Workout Or Work In These Shoes
Because they are designed for comfort and breathability, Allbirds make a surprisingly great workout shoe. They wont stink like your typical gym shoe, and your feet wont get super hot during strenuous workouts. Plus, you can toss those suckers in the washing machine whenever they need to freshen them up for a night out.
Keep in mind, this is not to be said for all of their designs. The Loungers or Breezers might be a bad choice for a deadliftbut we can vouch for the gym-worthiness of the Runners, Toppers, and Mizzles.

So Do Allbirds Fit Wide Feet
I am so glad Allbirds reached out so I could give this sustainable shoe and apparel brand a second try. While the slip-on style of Allbirds shoes may not work for wide and high-volume feet, I think the lace-up styles can while looking great at the same time.
I love the fabric of the Allbirds TrinoXO tee and would love to see more pieces crafted in the fabric. A midi-length tank dress would be fantastic, and I think I’d be more likely to rock the t-shirt if it came with a matching pair of Eucalyptus-colored joggers .

Cariuma Vs Allbirds: Promotions And Discounts
Why is this? Its because they want to maintain their methods at a sustainable level by cutting out the middleman.
Cariuma, on the other hand, has a Referral Program. Customers can give $30 to their friends to receive the same amount of money in return. By doing this, they also help plant 30 trees in the Brazillian Rainforest.
For obvious reasons, customers can get a little bonus while conserving the environment when taking part in Cariumas Referral Program. Its practically a win-win situation compared to Allbirds stance on promotions.

Many companies would balk at posting carbon scores on product pages. Getting Input From Consumers
One thing that hasnt changed in Allbirds approach between west and east is its desire to gather feedback from its consumers and act on their input. In the west, Allbirds values the feedback loop with customers that the direct to consumer model allows, and between 2016 and 2019, reportedly made more than 35 changes to its original Wool Runner that were based almost exclusively on customer concerns and experiences.
In China, despite the lack of a D2C model, Allbirds has kept up this commitment to hearing from its consumers, using data from Tmall as well as consumer feedback on the platform to inform changes to the look and feel of its product and marketing. For example, as Haskell explained in a video for Alizila, in its marketing throughout most of the rest of the world, Allbirds focuses its product imagery on the shoe itself. However, through Tmall, the brand learned that Chinese consumers wanted to see the whole look they want to see how the shoes are styled and how theyre paired with apparel. So, that was an early learning and something we changed on the site right away.
Allbirds talks about its expansion into China and why the market is key to its goal of becoming a globally beloved brand.
What we heard repeatedly from consumers was that they viewed our shoes as a new technology, an innovation.

One potential downside of the Tree Dasher is the limited number of eyelets. There are four sets of eyelets per shoe, none of which are at the top of the upper to help lock your fit in place and prevent slippage. I personally didnt have an issue with this, but that might not be the case with every runner.

Mother Naturemade Us Do It
A native of New Zealand, Tim Brown was always well versed in the magical qualities of merino wool. Inherently curious, he began asking himself why such a remarkable, sustainable resource was virtually absent in the footwear industry. And with that spirit of wonder, the Allbirds journey began.

While the Allbirds wool runners are their original style, their newer designs offer more variety for style and functionality. If our reviews below leave you with any unanswered questions, you can scrupulously go through the options at allbirds.com to narrow in on the design that best fits your needs.
From there, you can find the closest retailer to you or simply order online to have the most comfortable shoe shipped directly to your home! You will find that every pair comes in mens and womens sizing although, with the exception of the Breezers, the shoes themselves are unisex.
You can expect 5-7 business days for typical shipping, but there are expedited shipping options for a fee. If possible, go into the store and try on some pairs so you know which size is best for you given the lack of half-sizing. Many of us at Grow Ensemble have a pair of Allbirds.
When you try on your first pair, youll notice that it feels like your feet are slipping into soft clouds instead of your typical insoles. This is the work of the merino wool lining. While several of our team got mild out-of-the-box blisters on the back of their heels, each reported the comfort of the wool allowed them to keep wearing their new shoes without notable discomfort, and they havent taken them off since.
