Is Becoming A Sneaker Reseller The Right Side Hustle For Me
If youre a self-driven entrepreneur, you can make good money selling sneakers. Possibly even enough money to replace your 9-to-5 income if you hustle hard enough.
If youre going to build a business, its easier to put in the work if its something youre passionate about. If you enjoy sneakers as a fashion statement or consider yourself a sneakerhead, this side hustle could be a particularly good fit.
It can also be ideal for those who might already know they enjoy collectible industries. Even if the product is different, the experience of the work is similar. Its that same thrill from searching for a great deal, getting your hands on it and then raking in the profit.

The Best Shoe Size To Resell Depends On Your Goals
Ultimately, the best shoe size to resell is going to be dependent upon your goals as a reseller. For most resellers I would recommend targeting shoes sizes that sell quickly. If you are looking to resell sneakers full time then your objective should be to build up inventory so that you can sell a high volume.
You need high volume because for the most part, sneakers resell at small profit margins. However, by selling in volume you are able to multiply those profit margins quickly. This will be needed in order to pay bills to stay in business.
However, if you are reselling sneakers as a side hustle then you have more flexibility on the sneaker sizes that you can target. You can then focus more on maximizing profit margins which take longer to sell. This is what many call holding a sneaker.
Focus on Sizes That Sell Quickly
As a sneaker reseller you need to focus on sneakers that will sell quicker. This means you need to be willing to accept only a $10 or $15 profit on a pair. But if you are able to sell 10 pairs at a $10 profit on each pair then you have made a total profit of $100.
However, if you already have inventory then you could cop sneaker sizes that dont move as fast but have higher profit margins. For example, really big sizes like 15 can give you a return of $50 or $60 sometimes because the size is so hard to find.
Best Shoe Size To Resell Differs Between Hype And Retro Sneakers
As I mentioned before, we typically see that the best shoe size to resell for Jordan retros are 9 through 12. This is because retro sneakers are typically popular with older sneakerheads in comparison to hype sneakers. However, Jordan 1 retro sneakers are an exception to this. Jordan 1 retro sneakers tend to be popular with younger sneakerheads as well.
Those that cop newer hype sneakers are teenagers and college students trying to keep up with Joneses. This means that they have smaller feet than the more adult sneakerheads.

Some Other Risks To Consider
It is easy to get excited and overwhelmed when you begin reselling sneakers. The adrenaline rush can drive you to make impulse buys. Impulse buying is the worst thing you can do in such a risky market. So you need to make sure that you are making informed decisions.
A good way to make informed decisions is by joing a cook group. However, you have to be careful to make sure you are joing good ones. There is a lot of bad information from non-reputable cook groups that can cost you thousands of dollars. Ive seen cook groups predict a sneaker reselling above retail price and ended up being the contrary.
Why Sell Shoes Online
There is one great reason to sell shoes online: Theres money in it. Dont believe me? Consider the case of Beth Marbach, who made $4 million when she switched from selling books to selling shoes.
Or how about Benjamin Kapelushnik, a 16-year-old who makes a killing selling sneakers. One woman even made a whole lot of money selling her old used shoes. There really is a market for everything if you know where to look and who wants to buy
Im not saying that everyone will make millions selling shoes online, but there is definitely a market here. The global footwear market is set to reach over 400 billion dollars by 2025 and consumers in the US alone are spending over $76 billion on shoes each year. Thats a big money-pie, so why not take a slice?

~do These Run True To Size Quick Tip~
Occasionally we get questions from potential buyers who dont seem to have any idea how eBay works. The truth is, the majority of items being sold are not coming from the original owner. Because of this, questions like:
- Do you find these fit true to size?
- Do you have wide feet? I do, and was wondering if these would fit me.
- Hey will you take pictures of yourself in these sandals? Maybe with purple toenail polish to match the shoe color?
First off, if you want to make money selling used shoes, dont ignore questions like these! Ignoring them can lead to either a lost sale or bad feedback/a return if they buy them and they dont work out. Heres what we do: research their question and answer it! If you are selling a newer shoe that you can find online, both Amazon and Nordstrom have fitment guides and will tell you how the shoes run, size-wise. If that fails, we read reviews of the shoes to get a general consensus of how they fit. Then we respond to the question with something like, I am selling these shoes on consignment but was told that they fit true to size. Thanks! Sales every time.
The Shoe Reselling Industry
Forbes estimates that the resale market for sneakers is estimated to be over $1 billion annually.
Nicks Notes: By carefully and expertly hyping each new product launch, the manufacturers cater to loyal fans and strategically never quite make enough to fully satisfy the demand. Its that constant shortfall on the supply side that fuels the resale market.
This is also trend that doesnt appear to be slowing anytime soon. That same Forbes article notes that the international sneaker market is up 40% since 2004.
Even though only an estimated 4% of sneakers end up being purchased for immediate resale, the market has attracted side hustlers and entrepreneurs. At the top of the heap, some resellers are moving more than $2 million in inventory a year.

Shoes To Buy: Best And Worst Returns
Lets say you have $100, and youre looking for a pair of shoes with a decent return on investment. Youre not going to be able to afford a pair of Nike Air Jordans, but there are other routes you can take.
Honjo says Jordan 1 Highs reliably turn a good profit, as do Adidas Ultraboosts. Either pair could potentially come in under $100 at retail. He recommends staying away from brands like Vans or Under Armour as they dont have the same resale value as a pair of Nike or Adidas shoes.
Adidas Yeezy is another incredibly popular shoe brand you might think would be great for resale. But Honjo says the market has become oversaturated, making the potential profit before overhead costs about $30 per pair.
However, if you hold onto your inventory for a while, Yeezys can become more valuable over time. Honjo estimates that if you hold onto a new pair of Yeezys for at least 12 months, you could see the sneaker resale profits creep up to anywhere from $60 to $100 per pair.
What Makes Them So Good
Everything they sell is ridiculously cheap. They also have many different vendors which means the selection is excellent. They also have a huge user base which means that the marketplace is competitive which keeps the prices down. Their websites and online systems are also a breeze to use.
You should browse through these and see what you would like to resell. You will find that they offer significantly cheaper prices relative to retail stores.
When using the resellers above which we mentioned you should be careful not to get taken advantage of. Some vendors may try to fleece you, and it is important to properly vet them. We have put together some vetting questions that you should have an answer to. They are:
You want to buy from wholesalers who have a strong track record and good customer reviews.
Being successful reselling is more than just finding a cheap product you need to market your listings in order to make it successful. It is helpful to create a marketing plan.
That way you know you can make consistent sales. The way to do this is with a marketing plan. You should select from the many marketing methods and see if there is a market for it.

You Can Still Make Money On Hard To Sell Sneakers
As a new reseller, you will have times where you will be stuck with bricks. Bricks, as the name suggests, are harder to move and typically provide really small profit margins. This is every resellers nightmare especially when you have bills you are trying to pay.
If you dont know whether a sneaker will resell, then you are most likely struggling with the decision to pull the trigger. One way that you can offset the risk of copping bricks is by offering pre-orders or sneaker bot slots.
With pre-sales, you can guarantee a sneaker to a customer before release day in exchange for charging a fee. That way, you can be guaranteed to make some profit on the release of that sneaker.
The other option is to charge customers for a slot on your sneaker bot. You can typically charge the customer before or after success. If you charge before success you will want to make sure that you are good at copping new releases first. Otherwise, you can tarnish your reputation and customers wont want to work with you in the future.
