Air Jordan 1 Signed All

In 1985, Michael Jordan had just started his professional career. As a rookie, Jordan was one of the very few players to be selected for the All-Star Game one of basketballs most highly coveted matches. The annual competition between East and West saw Jordan frozen out of the game by senior players because of the attention Jordan was receiving.

All of this only adds to the allure surrounding this sneaker. In 1985, a man named Robert Crawford had been promised by His Airness that the next time they met he would receive his game-worn shoes. Fortunately enough for Crawford, that game would be on All-Star Weekend. After the game Jordan was finished, he was bombarded with media. Not forgetting the promise, Jordan had thrown the shoes and his socks over the media to Crawford. Crawford grabbed a Sharpie, put it back in the shoes and thrown them back for Jordan to sign.

Furthermore, this shoe is arguably one of the most important game-worn shoes by Michael Jordan. Back in 2011, the shoes were auctioned off and hit 23,000 before the end. For that reason, it makes these one of the most expensive pairs of Jordan 1s ever.

That’s right! The prolific auction house Sotheby’s is selling Michael Jordan’s signature 1984 Air Ships on October 24th. As part of its Icons of Excellence & Haute Luxury auction, Sotheby’s is putting the first of Jordan’s Nike shoes to hit the professional court on the market.

Any sports fan worth their salt knows that Nike granted the star athlete a sponsorship deal back in 1984. November of that same year, while the model for the Air Jordan 1 was still in the midst of production, the Air Ships were given to Jordan and worn in his fifth game as a rookie player against the Denver Nuggets.

In April 2016, Nike collaborated with the NBC drama Grimm to auction off 10 pairs of special edition Air Jordan Xs. With less than a dozen pairs made for the charity auction, the Air Jordan X Special Grimm Editions are the rarest Jordans in the world. The shoes were auctioned off through eBay for Charity, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to OHSU Doernbecher Childrens Hospital, which provides children and families with critical financial support associated with uncompensated care, travel, lodging, and other services.

Like most Jordans, the special Grimm Jordans were designed by Tinker Hatfield. Four pairs of white womens shoes were lined with a plush fur collar and four pairs of black leather mens shoes with a herringbone collar lining were created for the charity auction. In addition to the eight pairs, one additional pair of each design was signed by Michael Jordan and Tinker Hatfield. Overall, the sale raised about $22,400 for Doernbecher Childrens Hospital.

Air Jordan Silver Shoe Autographed

Release Date: 1995

Selling Price: $60,000

The Air Jordan Silver Shoe Autographed is special for many reasons, but not because they were worn by Jordan in a game. First, the shoes are rare. Only ten of them were ever made, making them extremely hard to find and very expensive. Second, the shoes were plated with handcrafted sterling silver. Third, the shoes that sold for $60,000 at auction were signed by Michael Jordan.

But what really makes the shoes special is the story of how Jordan got them. Jordans wife gave him the shoes as a present for his 32nd birthday. In collectors eyes, this makes them an important piece of sports history and really drives up the price.

As it is evident from the name itself, this pair of Jordans was specially designed for Jordan when he was to perform in the Olympic Games of 1992, as a part of what was known as the Dream Team. The white-carmine-black pair of Jordans has witnessed history and been a part of it.

Top 10 Most Expensive Sneakers of All Time | 2015 Jordan/Nike Shoes

Whilst it may be one of the least popular Air Jordan models, there is no denying the importance of the Jordan 2. Designed in 1985 by Nike Air Force 1 creator, Bruce Kilgore, the Jordan 2 was only worn a handful of time by His Airness. Jordan had broken his foot a few games into his second season, meaning he was left out for 64 matches. The minimal branding and high cut left Jordan wanting to leave Nike before Tinker Hatfield saved the day.

Made in Italy using luxury leather with a reptile-like texture, the Air Jordan 2 was nothing like the Air Jordan 1. The familiar combination of white and red leather, as well as a cushioned sole and grip, made the Air Jordan 2 a good athletic shoe. The Jordan 2 was a sneaker that divided many and, ultimately, still does. However, that didnt matter for one eBay user.

In 2014, an eBay seller had listed an original pair of Air Jordan 2s in their OG form. The shoes were not deadstock and were falling apart. Apparently, that didnt matter for the buyer though. This Air Jordan 2 sold for $31,000 and has not been seen since. Whatever the case, this seller got extremely lucky.

In May of 2020, the pair was auctioned off online at a price of $560,000, which was 5 times the expected price, and became the most expensive sneakers ever sold. Most notably, the right shoe has Jordans signature affixed in permanent ink.

These Michael Jordan Game

Sotheby’s is auctioning a pair of Air Ships worn by MJ before the Air Jordan 1.

Prior to the Air Jordan 1, there was the Air Ship. The high-top basketball sneaker originally released in 1984 and is noticeable similar to Michael Jordanâs debut signature shoe. MJ actually wore the Air Ship early in his rookie season before the Air Jordan 1 was ready, and history-minded sneakerheads treat the âPre-Jordanâ every bit as collectible as the sneakers that bear his name.

Today, Sothebyâs is announcing an auction for the earliest known pair of Air Ships to be worn in-game by Jordan. The autographed sneakers have been traced back to Jordanâs fifth NBA game and were given to a ball boy for the opposing Denver Nuggets whoâs held on to them ever since. Sothebyâs is expecting the final price for the rare Air Ships to hit $1 million to $1.5 million, which would make them the most expensive sneakers ever sold at auction.

“Michael Jordan and the Jordan Brand helped redefine what a signature line formed around an athlete could be,” Brahm Wachter, Sotheby’s head of streetwear and modern collectibles, said in a release.” These sneakers are a crucial part of the genesis of that story… but beyond that, it is also simply an incredible artifact that dates to the nascency of Michael Jordan’s rookie season.”
