This Kuru shoes review was totally born out of necessity! When I was told I had plantar fasciitis, I wasnt happy about having to switch from my favorite pair of shoes to something more supportive. Thats when I decided to give Kuru footwear a try
Kuru provided me with their shoes in exchange for a review but my love for their shoes is 100% my own! For your convenience, this post contains also contains affiliate links.
Its always something! I had just started running regularly again and was killing it. So when my right foot started to hurt, I ignored it. Each day it was a little more painful and though I ignored it for as long as I could , eventually I had to have it checked out.
It turned out that I had plantar fasciitis. This was terrible timing because I had two upcoming trips that would require a lot of walking. Then my doctor gave me even more bad news. I couldnt wear my cute flip flops anymore. The cute black sandals with the big bow had to go. I was told that I needed a more supportive shoe.
Are Kuru Shoes Worth The Money
So the question of the day isare Kuru shoes worth the money? While theyre not over the top expensive, theyre not cheap either and if Im going to spend that kind of money, I want to be sure its worth it.
While I did receive some shoes from Kuru to review, Ive since bought additional pairs of Kuru shoes at full price, which should answer the question. I absolutely love these shoes! Ive been wearing the sandals 95% of the time for the last three years and they are quality shoes that have stood the test of time.
Now I dont plan to work out in anything other than Kuru running shoes. So yes, my opinion is that they are great shoes that are definitely worth the money!

What Can I Wear With Slip
The slip-on sneaker is a versatile shoe that will work for all kinds of styles, but you can try to wear a t-shirt combined with cropped jeans for a super casual style or pair it with shorts to complete your simple relaxed occasions. For women, you can match it with a dress as well, to give a little touch of a casual vibe to your look.
Why Should You Buy Kuru Shoes
The most footwear including the one on your feet has a flat foam midsole and insole. In fact, look at how flat and flimsy the insole from the most $100 plus shoe is. Even premium running shoes are made in this way as you can see most of the soles. Most other types of shoes also produce the same thing floozy in this world. The truth is those hiking shoe manufacturers make shoes flat to save money. However, this cost-cutting comes at the expense of poor support for your feet.
If you are spending 70 80 or more than $100 on a pair of shoes, you deserve proper foot support. After all, your feet arent flat.
Why should your shoes be kuru shoes? Kuru Footwear is powered with the patent-pending KURUSOLE technology that fits and molds the contours of your feet. This makes Kuru the most anatomical active Footwear available.
Unlike other footwear technologies that are developed by marketing teams, KURUSOLE was developed through a collaboration of physical therapists, footwear specialists, and pedorthist. These are the people who make custom orthotics. Kuru brought the experts together and developed a technology that works.

The kind of arch support you need depends on…
- Your foot archdo you have a flat or high arch?
- Whether your feet supinate as you walk or pronate .
Your podiatrist can tell you whether you’re a supinator or an overpronator, as well as whether there is anything irregular about your stride. Your podiatrist might recommend custom orthotics. I personally have used the cheaper optionheat moldable orthotics. I use the Sole brand . These inserts have a hard layer of support and a layer of dense cushioning. They fit into shoes after the removable insoles that come with the shoes are removed.
Whether or not you need orthotic inserts, plantar fasciitis is helped by good arch support. The shoes you pick will decide it.

Why And How To Transition To A Barefoot Lifestyle
While I dont have concrete proof at my fingertips, Im going to make the bold proclamation that Grok did not suffer from plantar fasciitis. Our ancestors walked, hiked, sprinted, and even ran long distances over assorted natural terrain for 2.5 million years using bare feet, or rudimentary sandals or moccasins. A shoe-dominant lifestyle came into play only as recently as the Industrial Revolution. The epidemic chronic foot pain and assorted conditions suffered by modern humans are strongly influenced by spending a lifetime in cushiony, constrictive footwear with an elevated heel. Modern footwear weakens your lower extremities, messes up the synchronistic functioning of your entire musculoskeletal system and central nervous system, compromises correct posture, and makes you vastly susceptible to injury, dysfunction, and chronic pain.
You may be aware of some backlash in the minimalist footwear movement in recent years, as naysayers caution about the increased risk of injury with bare feet or flimsy shoes. As misguided as these negative claims are, its reasonable to gracefully acknowledge the inherent injury risk of being foolish when transitioning to more barefoot experiences and to learn how to do it the right way. Accordingly, here are some tips for making a safe and comfortable transition:
Find What Works For You
The best shoes for plantar fasciitis, though, are shoes that really work for you. Others may rave about a certain shoe, but you wont have the same right fit.
We encourage you to go to the store and try these on to get a proper fit. Or, if youre shopping online, make sure theres an easy way to return shoes if they dont fit right. Depending on your job and situation, you may need dress shoes or heels. If youre exercising , make sure to find a running or walking shoe that provides the right kind of support.
We think these are the best shoes for plantar fasciitis pain in 2018, separated by category. You may need to get a few different pairs depending on your lifestyle. At a minimum, we recommend one solid everyday support shoe and an exercise shoe.

Group Studies And Statistics
Much like research studies on the benefit of a quality orthotic, the proper shoe fitted with orthotic technology reaps the same success. There are multiple studies proving the efficacy of arch supports in relieving pain for those with plantar fasciitis.
In one study, it was concluded that foot orthoses and night splints, together, provided a better quality of life through significant pain relief and better foot function in as little as 12 weeks, while still improving over the course of 52 weeks.
Foot orthoses and anterior night splints were effective both short-term and long-term in treating pain from plantar fasciitis.
There have been a number of other studies touting the same benefit of combined, conservative treatments especially those incorporating the use of an orthotic device. You can see more studies on the benefit of orthotic support that have been referenced in this post.

Shoes To Avoid If You Have Plantar Fasciitis
When you have plantar fasciitis, not just any shoe will do. You want something that will cushion your foot to best protect your injury and promote healing.
Avoid low drop shoes. Tightness in the calves and stiff ankles results in feet pronating more to compensate and this puts more strain through the plantar fascia. A higher drop will often reduce some stress through the plantar fascia. Find a shoe that matches your foot type.
Minimalist shoes are considered low drop shoes since they have a very low heel-to-toe angle, or sometimes none at all.
- Minimalist shoes. This includes flip flops, ballet flats, boat shoes, and barefoot shoes. These types offer minimal stability, cushioning, and arch support, which puts extra stress on your plantar fascia and heel bone.
- High heels. These force your foot into an unnatural position which can cause long-term damage.
- Platform and wedge-style shoes. These have a rigid footbed that doesnt provide cushioning and can affect the way you walk.
- Improperly fitted shoes. Shoes that arent the right size can cause more damage than aid, especially if theyre too tight. This includes shoes with incorrect arch support.
- Worn-out shoes. Shoes tend to act their age- as they get older they wear down and lose their support. Even if a pair of sneakers doesnt look worn out they may be past their prime after about 250-300 miles of wear.
