A is generally only used in womens sizes, whereas EEE and above are predominantly found in mens widths. However, many brands are changing this to accommodate women with wider feet.

Well, again we have an oddly named and oddly sized unit of measurement. This time its a Paris point and comes in at 2/3 a centimetre. The shoe size is then the length of the last in Paris points. This does provide us an easy conversion from plain centimetres to shoe size, by multiplying the length of your foot by 1.5. This means my 26.5cm foot is a size 40, which would be a rough deal for a foot that is normally at least a 42! Then again, this would be a shoe fitting in the French way, where the toe is right up against the end. A more usual fitting would be adding in a centimetre of air, which would bring the size up to 41.5.

Traditional Shoe Shop Widths

In the UK, we have a complicated system of C-I width fittings and if you have visited a shoe shop you may well have been given a letter to denote which category you fall into. Usually E, F, G or H with E being narrow, F and G medium and H wide.

However, these are not really width measurements at all but volume measurements. This is because the fitter uses a tape to measure around the whole foot. This means a narrow, deep foot would measure the same as a wide, shallow foot. In practice these two different feet would need a very different style of shoe and yet could be given the same width designation. We therefore dont find that these designations will help you find the best shoe for your child.

How To Measure Foot Width With A Tape Measure

Most of us are seeing a metal measuring device using at shoe stores to measuring foot size.

Instead of using a metal measuring device to measure your feet, Im going to tell you how you can measure your feet with a simple sheet of paper a pen, and some sort of measuring device you can use either a ruler or a tape measure.

Step 1. First, you grab a simple sheet of paper and place it on a flat surface. .

Step 2. And you want to put your foot down on the paper and then draw the outline of your foot with the pen held perpendicular to the paper make sure to hold the pen snugly against your foot.

Step 3. Once you have your foot drawing, youre going to go ahead and grab your measuring tape and then youre going to measure across at the widest part of the foot usually thats going to be the ball of the foot. Once you have that youre going to measure from the heel to the longest toe

Step 4. Write down the measurings on paper and take the foot sizing chart then find your foot size

Pro Tip: Some brands offer narrow-fit shoes and some are true to size. If the shoe brand says size is a narrow fit, size it up by half an inch is a better idea.

What Is The Average Shoe Width

About 90% of the popular is of a normal width. That means that if youre not sure of your foot width, you probably wear a normal width shoe, which would be a B for women and a D for men.
