Honeymoon Hideaway Luxury Club Level Garden Cottage
With their exclusive location on the first and second floor of the much sought after Riviera Cottages, these well-proportioned hideaways are presented with four-poster king size bed, matching mahogany furniture, flat-screen TV and well-appointed en-suite bathroom which houses a shower with bathtub combination. The large private balcony or veranda provides a delightful view of the resorts famed Babbling Brooks, native Banyan trees and vibrant Ginger Lilies.
What Is The Beach Like At Sandals Ochi Beach Resort
One of the most important aspects of a Caribbean holiday is the beach, and we were not disappointed! There are 3 beach areas at Sandals Ochi Beach, the main beach area next to the main beach front pool a Riviera area which is blocked off by the pier and is somewhat shallow with round floats and finally, a quieter but small beach where the water sports are located.
We spent most of our time poolside at Ochi, but we did spend 2 or 3 afternoons in the main beach area because it was convenient for getting drinks from the bar and rinsing off at the shower. It was also nice to switch from beach to pool and v.s.
Note, however, that this area is pretty loud all day with music and playmakers.
The Riviera area in front of the main building was our least favourite. It was often in the shade, sunbeds full and with two restaurants and a bar located close by, far too noisy for us. The dock where the catamaran departs from is also located there so there was additional noise. We also didnt like the cornered off swim area.
The small water-sports beach is far more peaceful although we didnt spend anytime there other than participating in the water-sports. Time there can also be limited to early/mid-afternoon as this is the area where weddings and private dining takes place.
The Rabbit Hole Speakeasy
Last November we enjoyed spending time on the Urban Bourbon Trail in Kentucky and even tried out a speakeasy in Louisville Kentucky. We enjoy wine tastings and distillery tours wherever we go. So when I discovered the Sandals Ochi Beach had a Speakeasy, I knew we had to visit.
For those of you not familiar with the term speakeasy, it is a term that originally began during the Prohibition-era in the United States. These were illicit drinking houses that were kept secret. They were always hidden, unmarked, and you were required to know the secret passcode to gain entrance.
The Rabbit Hole is the only authentic speakeasy bar in the Caribbean and it lives up to what a speakeasy was a long time ago. First of all, it is not marked and there are no signs directing you to it. You must ask a staff member for help and you must obtain the password that changes daily. It is like stepping back in time, complete with flappers , decorations, and drink specials that are not common today. It was a fun and unique evening activity.

Gazebo Beach Or Garden Ceremonies
Weddings here can be very cookie cutter and affordable, or personalized and expensive with a mind-boggling list of add-ons from flowers to invitations to cake and more. Thankfully, the bride and groom have access to a free travel and wedding planner who will make sure the travel, accommodations, and big day go smoothly for the couple and their guests. Ceremonies can have up to 600 guests, and can be held throughout the resort, in a gazebo, on the beach, or in a garden. Note that the weddings aren’t private and you may have an audience of bikini-clad onlookers who weren’t invited. Also, given the hotel’s couples-only policy, any stag wedding guests, or those with families, will have to stay at Sandals’ family-friendly sister property, Beaches Ochos Rios Resort & Golf Club . Children need to be approved by the hotel in advance.
Unlimited golfing at the resort’s 18-hole golf course is provided for all guests. A free shuttle takes guests to and from the links throughout the day. The par-71 course includes views of the mountains and sea. A caddy is required and costs extra, as do optional golf carts, club rentals, and lessons. There’s a driving range and practice putting course. A jerk shack sells chicken and pork off the 10th hole or golfers can eat and drink at the clubhouse. Free golf clinics are held twice a week.

How Far Is It From The Airport
If you are coming from Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, the resort is 99.2 km east, while at Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston, the resort is 107 km northwest. Both routes are a 90+ min drive from the airport to Sandals Ochi.
As part of their package, they have roundtrip airport transfers to and from Sandals Ochi so you only have to think about the many adventures ahead. While the drive is quite long, the scenic view of the landscape more than makes up for it.

Drinks Do You Really Get Premium Brands
The short answer is yes. The long answer is not always. One of the unique selling points of Sandals is their included premium brand alcohol as part of their all-inclusive program. The beer of choice is often their own Jamaica Red Stripe, and the resort has their own wine options, although there are other premium wines available at an additional cost. We drunk mostly from the Sandals House Wines, although we did purchase a bottle on one occasion , and we greatly regretted the wine later it was disgusting!
Cocktails are free flowing all day, although the bartenders tend to make up signature cocktails as their knowledge of well-known cocktails is limited. Also, watch out that they use the spirit you actually want. If you want Gordons or London Beefeater gin, ask for it specifically and watch as they make your drinks. Too often we asked for a gin and tonic and were given standard non-labeled cheaper gin.

Sandals Ochi Beach Resort’s 100-plus acres are put to good use with seemingly endless features. Limitless scuba diving is free, while scuba certification is offered for a fee. Other water sports include snorkeling, sailing, waterskiing, and paddleboarding. Glass-bottom boat rides are on offer as well . On land, there are tennis courts, croquet, billiards, and beach volleyball. Entertainment includes everything from cocktail parties to talent shows to impromptu beach parties.

Water Sports At Sandals Ochi Beach Resort
If youre not a beach bum kinda person, youll be overjoyed to know that youll never get bored at Sandals. Every night a newspaper with the next days activities is placed in your room so you can plan out your next day. From dance lessons, yoga, pool games, beach volleyball, scuba diving lessons and water sports, there is plenty to choose from.
Scuba diving is included at Sandals, only if you are certified with proof of your PADI license. Lessons are available at the resort too at additional cost. Otherwise, there are plenty of other water sports available to keep you busy, including our favourite, wind sailing. We had never done it prior to this trip, but it was no problem as one of the instructors will take you out and teach you how. Only when he is certain you are capable of sailing alone will he let you out solo.
There are also daily included snorkelling trips available which have to booked slightly in advance during peak seasons. We were really hoping to go out and do some snorkelling, but high winds meant the sea was too rough during most of our stay at Ochi Beach which meant the snorkelling trips werent operating.
Excursions with their partner operator Island Routes are available to book in the lobby although we found the same excursions for cheaper online. We took a day trip to Bob Marleys Nine Mile Town and Museum which we booked last minute through Viator .

What Are The Restaurants And Quality Of Food Like At Sandals Ochi Beach Resort
Dining and food options are our biggest concern with all-inclusive large resorts. Cooking for huge amounts of people often means the quality of food is lower, but we were pleasantly surprised by the food at Ochi Beach Resort.
As we were booked into a Butler Suite, our dinner reservations were taken care for us in advance by our Butler, and when we arrived at the resort, all our reservations were already made, with very little flexibility in changes. We dined at every restaurant during our 1-week stay. Here are a few comments on each:
Riviera Honeymoon Beachfront Club Level
These generously sized rooms present everything you need for the perfect vacation. Decorated in sophisticated, muted tones and featuring a mahogany four-poster bed and exquisite furniture and lighting throughout, these rooms include a substantial en-suite marble bathroom with a shower/tub combination and an open plan lounge area and in-room bar. The highlight is found on the rooms large private balcony where some of the most spectacular vistas of the Caribbean Sea are found.

Split Between Two Sides Of The Road Close To Downtown Ocho Rios
This 110-acre resort is located a five-minute drive from the main center of Ocho Rios, and its two sides of have distinctly different feels. The beach resort and seaside rooms are a short drive from the main road, with large archways and a grand entrance. The villa side is up in the hills and is a farther drive, with the villas spread out behind the main plantation-style Great House. While it is possible to walk around on each side of the resort, guests wishing to cross need to use the continually circling jitneys, as the roadways are too dangerous for pedestrians and the main road separating the two sides is very busy. A free shuttle brings guests to the golf course at scheduled times, and drivers are available for travelers who wish to explore downtown Ocho Rios and nearby attractions like Dolphin Cove and the Green Grotto Caves. The shuttle to the airport is free but expect anywhere from an hour to two for the drive. Sandals Montego Bay is much closer to the airport and still offers free transportation, but the property isn’t as large and guests there report airport noise.
