Pokmon Goes High Fashion Mulberry Takes Meghan Collison Underwater And Tights That Look Like They’re Melting

Brian Atwood At Work

Jersey Shore might be over, but that apparently doesn’t mean seeing any less of J.Woww: The MTV star flashed a bit too much of herself at the network’s New Year’s show. On Tumblr, 23-year-old Zara employee Francis Phommisai combines fashion editorials with Pokémon–and the results are kind of amazing. Crystal Harris finally wed her Playboy honey Hugh Hefner in a pink gown, which makes us wonder if this trend is finally over. Meghan Collison goes under the sea for Mulberrys spring campaign, shot by Tim Walker.

Brian Atwood Says Never Compromise On What You Love

ByTommye Fitzpatrick

BoF speaks to footwear designer Brian Atwood about his professional journey from male model to creative director of the go-to label for;colourful, sexy, statement heels.

ByTommye Fitzpatrick

NEW YORK, United States Freedom lies in being bold, luxury footwear designer Brian Atwood told BoF, quoting American poet Robert Frost. Thats what I started the company with never compromise what you really love to do.

Atwood loves colourful, sexy, statement heels. And in a little over a decade, he has built an enviable reputation as the go-to label for just that. His shoes are sometimes over-the-top and almost always vertiginously high. Multi-coloured snakeskin sandals are finished with leather lacing and a five-inch stiletto, while latticed suede platform heels are intricately dotted with tiny studs.

With their verve and unabashed sensuality, Atwoods designs have also captured the hearts of red carpet regulars. Indeed, the closely-followed website Red Carpet Fashion Awards named Atwood Shoe Designer of the Year in both 2010 and 2011, a nod to his popularity amongst instantly recognisable faces like Victoria Beckham, Zoe Saldana and his good friend, the superstylist Rachel Zoe.

At that time, the footwear business was a mere fraction of what it is today. was basically matching the shoe to the dress. It wasnt about these shoes being on their own. I didnt know that there was a business in it yet.

Brian Atwood On Why Platforms Are Here To Stay Working With Miss Piggy And His New Campaign

B Brian Atwood Fall 2011

Along with making ridiculously sexy heels that pretty ladies love to wear–from both his main line collection and his B Brian Atwood diffusion line–shoe designer Brian Atwood has entered the mini-movie business. Well, sort of. Unveiled in November, the B Brian Atwood Vibrant Tears Killer Heels video basically represents color-blocking through, well, a model crying candy-colored paint tears all over her smoking hot and unclothed body, to finally drip onto a diabolical Resort 11 platform pump. Now the dishy designer is at it again with a racy new vid promoting another pair of come-hither fringed strappies for his Spring 12 B collection. We were lucky enough to receive an exclusive invitation to drop by the steamy video shoot at Triad, a teeny burlesque-style theater located above a Turkish restaurant on W. 72nd Street . We arrived as a very leggy model was in full rehearsal mode, shaking her groove thing in killer heels and lingerie for the directors. All in a days work. Then we headed upstairs to the balcony overlooking the action for a nice chat with the dreamy Atwood . Keep an eye out for the completed video in January 2012, but in the meantime, here are the designers thoughts on his B line, Manolo Blahniks well-documented hatred of platforms, and that notorious Hollywood diva – Miss Piggy:

ABOUT THE CHICAGO HISTORY MUSEUM

Fashion Star: Brian Atwood Shoe Designer

Atwood on his rise to success and his A-list clientele

Luisa Rino

Sometimes mother really does know best. Sitting at The Rooms new space in the Bay Vancouver, Brian Atwood repeatedly credits his success to a supportive family. Both of them. Theres his Italian family, as he fondly refers to the famous Versace clan, and his always immaculate mother, Dusty Stemer, an avid shoe collector in his hometown of Chicago who acts as his muse. It was at her insistence that Atwood first attended university before moving to New York to study at the Fashion Institute of Technology. By the grace of his movie-star good looks, after graduation Atwood embarked on a seven-year modelling career that landed him in Milan, exactly the right place at the right time. One day, I just said Im done with modelling and pounded the pavement. Versace called me that week. Things that dont ever happen happened, says Atwood, who in 1996, at the height of Versace mania, was the first American to work for the late designer. Beginning as his right-hand, Atwood was quickly given more responsibility, first designing ready-to-wear for Versus before being entrusted with footwear and accessories for the main line.

Melissa and Brian have been great friends since attending high school together. “I was laughing so loud that friends watching at home said they could hear me.””Walking in heels is an art and we all poke fun at that,” Brian said. “Melissa took it to another level, and that’s what makes her a genius.” In case you didn’t catch it on Saturday, check out the video here: Did you laugh out loud at the skit? Lady Gaga’s Oscars Shoes Were 9

Saks Fifth Avenue Presents Brian Atwood

When it comes to red carpets, Brian Atwood is as dominating a force as Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin. A former male model who started his design career at Versace, Atwood has a firm grasp on what kind of sex appeal celebrities like to exude every season — and he delivers concisely, often creating custom footwear for his clients. And this Oscars, the designer made a showing on the ceremony carpet, appearing on the feet of Jennifer Lawrence and Lady Gaga. Pret-a-Reporter had a chance to catch up with the designer to find out just how high Gaga’s platforms really were, not to mention why slightly more manageable platform stilettos will never die.

Brian, you are the preeminent shoe designer for awards season – why do you think celebrities turn to your styles again and again?

I believe there are three reasons we are a red-carpet go-to. First and foremost; the designs. I always try to create shoes that make women feel sexy and glamorous, a feeling all women want for the big night Second, I am not afraid of height. We always offer very high heels and platforms that give a statuesque appearance. And finally, I know that comfort is key. My shoes are able to worn continuously throughout night. We all remember Emma Thompson cursing about her stilettos which she eventually had to take off when accepting her Golden Globe. No one want to see movie stars walking around barefoot.
