Men And Womens Work Clothing

You can donate mens business clothing to Career Gear and donate womens business clothing to Dress for Success. Both have multiple locations in the United States. They are known for not only helping people find the right outfit but also for ensuring they have what they need to prosper in the professional world.

Mens suits are welcome at Career Gear, but if youre hard-pressed to find a location near you, Mens Wearhouse has an annual Suit Drive where they accept gently used professional attire to support nonprofit organizations like Dress for Success and Career Gear.

Looking in your closets, you are likely to find two or three dress shirts, trousers, skirts or dresses that you havent worn or needed for years. Dont let the what if drag down spreading the love. These items obviously havent worked for you in a while, so donate business attire that could help someone else on their path to success.

How To Recycle Clothes That Can’t Be Repaired Donated Or Resold

Dont let your old shoes pile up

Most of us don’t think twice before we put something in the garbage. We’re not taught much about recycling in school , and I for one used to assume the people who handled the garbage would make sure it ends up in the right places. But unfortunately, that’s just not the reality we live in.

In Canada, the average person throws out 81 pounds of textiles annually, while North Americans send 10 million tonnes of clothing to the landfill every yearmost of which could be reused or recycled, according to statistics compiled by Waste Reduction Week in Canada.

That’s CRAZY! And quite disappointing to think about…

Could you imagine how much energy we would save if everyone just took the time to recycle? Even in the case of an old stained t-shirt or pair of old underwear, there are textile recycling programs that exist to keep even the most unwearable items out of the garbage and in turn, out of landfills.

Let’s get into it, shall we?!

Best Places To Donate Clothes

An added benefit of giving clothes to somewhere other than Goodwill is you have to plan it more, which, in my opinion, opens it up to inviting others to join in much easier!

Putting together various charity drives, like a clothing drive, is one of many different family service ideas you can do in your home, but also easily opened up to your neighborhoods, church communities, homeschool groups, school groups, and more.

Arizona Humane Society Thrift Store

For animal lovers, the volunteer-run Arizona Humane Society thrift stores in Mesa and Cave Creek accept donated clothes and household items for resale, with profits benefitting Arizonas most vulnerable pets.

They accept all types of clothing but be sure to check their website if you want to donate other items. They also collect used dog toys and other goods specifically for animals in their shelter.

Other thrift stores in the Valley that benefit local animals are the Halo Animal Rescue Resale Store in Cave Creek and Foothills Animal Rescue Resale Boutique in Carefree and north Scottsdale.

Consider Selling And Then Donating The Money

Donating cash to your charity of choice helps you give money to those who you believe need it most. Using auction and classified websites such as eBay, holding a garage sale, or using a consignment shop are good options to sell your items. When you donate cash you know the exact amount to report to the IRS, as opposed to using the valuation .

Whats Wrong With Donating To Goodwill

The Give Back Box Allows You To Donate Old Clothes From Home | NowThis

Theres nothing inherently wrong with donating to Goodwill, but your clothes may have a greater impact elsewhere. In some cases, your donated clothing may actually be harming people instead of helping them.

Only 20% of clothes donated to thrift stores is actually resold. The rest is trashed or dumped in the Global South, where it pollutes their land and water, and disrupts their local textile economy. Ghanas Kantamanto market is a prime example of this.

Besides that, Goodwill can be exploitative. Its CEO made $730k in 2018, and many other executives make close to a million, or at least six figures. All the while, many workers with disabilities are paid less than $1/hour. There is a legal loophole in the Fair Standards Labor Act that allows people with disabilities to be paid less than minimum wage based on their productivity.

You could get into an hours-long discussion about the nuances of the policy, other government benefits, and how this affects people with disabilities. But one thing is clear: its not possible to live on a paltry paycheck like that. Its grossly inequitable and disappointing to see a non-profit pay workers so little and executives so much.

To check if your Goodwill is good, you can always look at the website of your local or regional branch. If you cant find information about fair wages, Id recommend contacting them directly or reading worker reviews on Glassdoor.

Does It Fit Your Current Lifestyle

Does that mini skirt still make sense with your 95 daily grind? Are you ever going to wear that Hawaiian shirt again? If something no longer fits your current lifestyle or personal style, donate it! Most likely, it will just spend time in your closet at your new home if you dont. Donating it will free up some space for you and the item might be the perfect thing for someone else.

Prom And Formal Dresses

Throughout your life, youre bound to get put through a few formal events. You might love them, others might hate them, but we all have one thing to remind us of that ceremony: the overpriced outfit. Just get rid of them. You know youre never going to wear them again. A few places to donate your prom dress or suit to are Operation Prom, the Cinderella Project, The Princess Project, Priceless Gown Project, Every Girls Dream, and Project G.L.A.M.

Can You Throw Clothes In The Recycling Bin/trash

It is not recommendable to do that. If you do it, there is a high chance that they will end up in a landfill.

It is always better to first try to see if you can donate, resell or swap your clothes.

Next, you can recycle in the nearest textile center the clothing and shoes that are in poor condition.

Any kind of textile, even the one that is natural and biodegradable, will have a hard time degrading due to the landfill conditions lack of sunlight and oxygen.

Instead of making the solid waste stream grow in our landfills, we should try to reuse, repurpose or recycle our clothes.

Other Places To Donate Clothes

Some organizations and programs arent taking donations due to the pandemic, so be sure to double-check before making plans to drop anything off. This is another reason that giving clothes away directly may be more effective, as individuals decide their comfort level in accepting others clothing. You can also do contactless porch pickups when passing your clothes onto individuals.

Some organizations are also overwhelmed with donations, so I always try to call ahead and see whats needed before dropping anything off.

Vietnam Veterans Of America

The Vietnam Veterans of America is an organization dedicated to promoting and serving the needs of Vietnam War veterans through legislative initiatives, education and outreach programs. The non-profit collects donations of clothing and household items, which they either give directly to homeless and low-income veterans or re-sell in their resale stores to generate funds for their various programs and initiatives.

Accepted donations: The VVA accepts clothing of all types and sizes, including accessories and shoes. They also accept furniture, appliances and other household items.

How to donate: Find a drop-off location or schedule a pick-up, using the interactive map here. The VVA also runs a program called Pick Up Please, which picks up your donations within as little as 24 hours. You can schedule a pick-up through Pick Up Please here.

CHARITY TIME/ DONATING OLD CLOTHES ,SHOES AND BAGS TO ORPHANAGE

Whether youre minimizing your wardrobe after a Marie Kondo marathon or want to do a deep spring clean, donating your unneeded clothing is sustainable and charitable. Over 20 billion pounds of textiles end up in landfills every year, and only 10% get donated to charities or to secondhand stores. Recycling your old clothes is simultaneously altering the approach to retail, the environmental crisis, and humanitarian aid for a wholesome and inventive way to rework the fashion industry. Plus, donating used clothes to shelters or stores that give back is a great way to do some clearing out while still feeling good about helping others in Toronto.

**Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, some locations are not accepting clothing donations at this time, so be sure to double-check the websites before donating

Go To Or Host A Clothing Swap Party

Where To Donate Your Old Clothes, Shoes, And Glasses

A clothing swap party is where everyone attending brings an agreed-upon items of clothing or accessories from their own closet. This is great even after you purge and you just want to rotate a few specific items out.

Clothing swaps are great because youre getting ahead of spring cleaning, and, if you add some wine, it even feels like a chic or eclectic party depending on your friends. Once the swap is over, youre probably going to have leftover clothes that just didnt find a new owner. When in doubt, donate!
