    Remove The Laces From Shoes

First of all, you need to remove your laces to avoid them getting knotted. Let them soak in some detergent and water for the next 24 hours. The next step is to rinse them by hand under warm water.

Next, you wrap a cloth around the laces and fill the cloth with some detergent or soap and water you can also place them in a small mesh laundry bag or pillowcase and wash them along with shoes. You can also hand wash them.

The reason your shoes stink is that your feet contain 250,000 sweat glands. When those glands get confined in a shoe, the sweat and warmth create a breeding ground for bacteria. To get rid of the smell in your shoes, you need to destroy the bacteria causing the stink. You can do this by cleaning them properly. Using homemade shoe deodorizing sprays or powders also helps. Our Top Ten Tips For Kids Stinky Feet

    New Shoes

This may seem obvious, but you would be surprised at how many parents neglect to replace their childrens shoes on a regular basis. Swapping out those stinky shoes for a new, more breathable pair is one simple step.

    Swapping Socks Midday

Can we talk about socks? Sometimes its hard to get a pair of socks on your kiddos but this step can make a big difference in fighting foot odor. Like many shoes, some socks are made from materials that do not allow feet to breathe. We recommend changing your children’s socks at least once a day or purchasing socks made from breathable materials such as: cotton and merino wool.

    Invest in Odor Eaters

Disinfectant options are a great way to kill bacteria in shoes. Whats most important to remember about this is to stay on top of it. Stick those odor eaters in your kid’s shoes every night. Remember, you will only get out of it what you put into it.

    Try Some Foot Powder

As we have discussed, kids’ feet get sweaty. Try tossing some talcum powder on their sweaty feet before putting socks on. Chances are it will reduce the sweat and cut back on unwanted bacteria.

    Dry Those Shoes!

If youre out of talcum powder or are looking for another option, try rotating your childrens shoes. This allows for the stinky shoes to totally dry before sticking your kids feet back into them.

Smelly Soccer Cleats: Whats The Solution

Bryan Byrne September 22, 2009Cleat Maintenance

Yes, we have all experienced it, the horrible stench of smelly soccer cleats that have been stuck in a bag for a week too long.

Even though I should know better, there are times when I forget my boots and leave them in a bag for an extended time without taking them out to dry. Or, when I am testing a few pairs of cleats at one time, I tend to leave them sitting in the back of my car, and when my car sits in the sun for a few hours, believe me when I say..you dont want to be a passenger in my car! I do try to air dry my cleats after I wear them , but there are times when we just fall behind. So, what is the solution to stopping your cleats from getting smelly?

First off, I never encourage anyone to leave their cleats in a boot bag. After a game, the best thing you can do is stuff them with some newspaper and leave them outside to air dry. Not in direct sunlight, as this process would just overdry the material. Just leave them outside in a shady area. Doing this will make a huge difference! To get the most out of your cleats, they need to be treated properly. The best thing to do is view them as an important investment. If you can keep them dry, smell should not be an issue unless you are not washing your socks. My best advice is to get into a routine of leaving them outside after practice or games.

But in the event that you are already far gone from that stage, here are some key tips to help you out:
