Im really disappointed with the quality of a pair of sandels which I purchased from at the end of last summer. I have hardly wore them and the stitching has come apart. I have taken them back to their Merry Hill branch and the Assistant Manager was rude and had no customer service. Robert Greenberg founded Skechers in 1992. At the time, L.A. Gear had a lock on the womens athletic market and Nike dominated the market for mens athletic wear. But there were no industry giants who controlled mens and womens street shoes. This provided Skechers an opportunity to champion a new and expanding niche market in the U.S.A.
Before Greenberg went out on his own to create Skechers, he was one of the founders of L.A. Gear, which within seven years of business was already grossing more than $900 million in salesthe yield of neon tennis shoes that favored female preferences. By 1992, L.A. Gear saw a huge loss in market share and the company forced out Robert and his son Michael.
It wasnt the first taste of the unpredictable, significant shift in the retail trade for Greenberg. He began his career in the 1960s and worked in various retailing roles: from selling wigs to beauty parlors to importing designer jeans to founding a roller skate store. But his first major break happened after he purchased the license to place the image of the film character E.T. on his shoelaces.
That move netted him $3,000,000 in fewer than eight weeks.

The Companys First Plan

With all there labels proving successful, Greenberg and company saw the financial opportunity available to them in developing their own label. In 1993 he decided to pool his resources, both fiscal and creative, and focus on developing Skechers. Both Cross Colours and Karl Kani was discontinued not long after.

U.S. soy is now found in new lines of Skechers footwear, thanks to their collaboration with The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company.
This collaboration is an example of two trusted brands coming together to create a high-tech product that will truly benefit our consumer, said Michael Greenberg, president of Skechers.

No, Skechers doesnt hire factories in the USA for its shoes. They mainly manufacture in Vietnam and China.
